Conservatives are more likely to be friends with liberals than vice versa

You clearly haven’t talked to many conservatives have you ?

I live in rural Florida :awkney: my county is one of the blood-reddest. They're either bigots themselves or ok with it when others are (ie people who support Trump and a lot of well known republicans).

but on the flip side it could be argued that the left is in favor of racial discrimination towards non-POC, pedophilia, communism, the eradication of the first amendment etc etc

Sure, you could argue that but not accurately :laughga: no one wants pedo-rights, liberals and leftists in the US aren't communists, no one is arguing against the first amendment, and wanting racial equality isn't discrimination against white people :spin:

So it’s interesting that you paint all conservatives as the same because of the small subset of people that you know in your county , yet are refusing the accept that there’s a large number of people who identify as leftists / progressives who hold such beliefs as the ones I mentioned - interesting how that works .. As they say : “Deny, Deny, Deny”

I guess people espousing :

”F**k white people. F**k capitalism.” and waving the Sickle and Hammer flags while quoting Karl Marx, and (thankfully few) activist calling on the expansion of the phrase MAP just doesn’t happen Alrighty then ...
*hope you’re just not aware of the behavior of far left activists as opposed to pretending it doesn’t exist - Dear God -*

This doesn’t surprise me. I’ve experienced tolerance way more with right-wing leaning people than left-wingers recently.

In my experience, they’re much more open to other’s opinions, and they don’t care that I’m gay. The only downfall I see is that they depend on religion too much.

With the leftists, they have become so extreme that they simply need any reason to crucify you if you have any slight deviation from their opinion. I literally got called a “fascist transphobic bigot” last week in person for simply saying as a gay man, I am not interested in anyone that is trans because I’m only attracted to biological men that present as men. That just goes to show you they have no sense of “tolerance” and “inclusivity“, as they claim they do.

I feel you on so many points !

Granted I’ll get involved with arguments with both sides of the political spectrum. I’ve had to chew several conservatives out for their blatant homophobia but I’ve seen far more commonly is a moderate approach to the LGBT from conservatives where it’s along the lines of “ Who cares? I care more about the content of your being than who you’re attracted to.” “Let two consenting adults do as they please” “The government has no right to tell two consenting adults what they can or cannot do” or “I’m gay and conservative”. Typically what you’ll see more than anything is rejection of the inception of non-binary identifying people but typically most have an issue with how inconsistent the “rules” are or how legally it can be dangerous territory to interact with a non binary person because miagendering them can actually bring with it legal consequences

With liberals it’s usually been that anytime I question the morality And mortality of abortion (not even taking a position but rather making arguments for both sides) I’m considering a sexist. Being pro-Second Ammendment means I’m okay with children being massacred. Congratulations on this administrations ability to keep the economy stable and maintain job growth means I’m an evils white supremacist homophobic piece of trash (apparently you can be those things while being a gay Puerto Rican go figure). Oh and despising communism means I support inequality and want people to die.

No this isn’t a total sum game where few represent all especially as I’m close with people on both sides of the political spectrum and we can discuss politics civilly and remain friends especially since none of us represent be extremes of the right or left

You have to keep in mind that people identify with political parties for many different reasons. Of course, politics is not my forte, but I wouldn't be surprised to see that most of the people that align to the left do so because of a personal interest of some sort such as race or sexual orientation or even gender. In contrast, the issues the right seem to herald aren't as identifying, such as second amendment rights or policing government involvement. That's not to say there aren't those that gravitate to certain parties for the opposite reasons (such as the left with welfare programs and the right with religious zealots).

But these differences could be the major factor in which side would be more likely to be friends with the other. People who are more focused on identity politics are more likely to see their political rivals as being against them as people, rather than against their politics.

Even if a given conservative voter isn't themselves a homophobe/xenophobe/generic bigot, those representatives of the conservative parties tend to be in favor of policies that are homophobic/xenophobic/etc. Thus it appears that the voter is condoning the representatives views. And in a way, they are. It's doubtful we, as voters, will be able to choose a representative that mirrors our political views exactly, so we have to choose the one that aligns as much as possible. We have to decide what views we do and don't condone of our representatives, it's inescapable unless we run for offices ourselves.

But I digress. I do wonder what the results of this survey would be if we accounted for those invested in identity politics and those that aren't.

most people are actually moderate ;)

Doesn’t really matter what they say they believe in when they vote for trump baby child.

My parents vote for trump even though the administration is against gay rights. They start off with “no he isn’t!” When I confront them with facts they switch too “well that will never pass in the courts!” They maintain that line of thinking even after I point out that half the court system is trump appointed (not to mention woefully incompetent).

Most conservatives see these topics as just matters of opinion, because they don't really see their survival at stake.

Minorities on the other hand are at constant risk of being erased from society because one law maker decided that he doesn't like queers.

Easy for them to say.

..And that’s where your morals conflict with another persons. Thanks for proving my point

Science says at conception it’s already human. Within the first few weeks the zygote already has a unique genetic structure different from the mother and fathers. By week 3 there’s already a heartbeat. At what stage do you define humanity ?

Minorities can also be conservative though ...

Which anti-gay legislation do you speak of ?

Depending on which minorities we are talking about and where.

People vote against their interests all the time.

Racial and sexual ...

but interests are not so black and white (no pun intended). Taxes and national sovereignty can easily be a trans persons interests. What affects and interests a person politically isn’t so limited to what skin color they happen to be or who they happen to sleep with. There’s other factors that go into your vote, and repercussions that follow. Despite being gay and Hispanic I also think that the Second Amendment should be protected and that our nation’s sovereignty is to be recognized and enforced. Obviously I’m at a much more complex intersection because there’s points of the left and right I agree with and disagree with so my political choices end up being more nuanced or a greater pain in my ass because of the conflicts to my personal views both parties represent. I don’t want a socialist model for the United States nor do I want theological beliefs to rule people’s lives.
