So Bernie is #1 in all demos except 65+ ?

I don't have a graphic or anything but you can be sure he lost the 65+. IDK how he did in the over 30 but under 65 vote.

If the moderates had an actual charismatic young leader like Trudeau they would have this in the bag I feel like. Imagine how bad your candidates are when the teenagers prefer the 80 years old grandpa over them :rip:

Caucus vs Primary

People in Iowa are probably tired of the caucus system

I don't think it is that. Iowans have always took pride in their caucus, regardless of the system itself.

I personally am thinking that it had more to do with the number of candidates and so many people not knowing who they wanted to vote for. But in NH, there was already results and a pulse people could go from. That said, many NH voters were undecided even on election day per the exit polling. This tells me that turnout will keep rising as people continue to drop out when there are clear choices to be made.

In the interim, that means the campaigns that can best turn out their voters will be the ones that win. So far that has been Bernie. That isn't surprising because of how much money he has and the broad swath of both staff and volunteers.

I actually find Bernie quite endearing because of that. It's cute.

Whereas Warren doesn't exude grandma energy; she seems calculated

And Joe....... is Joe.

Yeah, there's a lot of terminology that is used and the meaning behind the term varies from user to user.

Iowa going more red?

Actually, I don't know that is necessarily the case.

Number of active democratic reg voters in Iowa  2020: 615,515.

Number of active democratic reg voters in Iowa  2016: 586,835

Number of active republican  reg voters in Iowa  2020: 634,497.

Number of active republican  reg voters in Iowa  2016: 615,763

If you compare 2020 vs 2016 the ratio stays 49% democrat and 51% republican.

True

I'm finding a lot of these terms are starting to become too arbitrary to mean anything in my opinion

There's too much grey area

Is someone like Elizabeth Warren who wants to raise taxes on wealthy, make a wealth tax, regulate wall street etc but doesn't wanna cut military or create free healthcare... What would she be called?

I guess ppl will have different views on that

With Warren, since you mentioned her, she says she wants to cut the military budget but did vote to give Trump more money for his military budget than he even asked for. She has a vested interest in the military industrial complex as Raytheon is headquartered in MA and there's been a couple articles detailing out that she's not so hostile against the MIC as she is on the stump. That said, for me, I think the best description for Warren is center-left populism if we're going to be really technical.

I mean the word, "progressive," has almost no meaning anymore. Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Warren, Bernie, AOC, Klobuchar, and Pete are all called or call themselves "progressive" but there's a lot of spectrum in that list. When I look at "progressive" one of the largest qualifying attributes is anti-interventionism. A real progressive doesn't support regime change, the idea of sanctions and endless war. Everyone I just listed don't 100% meet that criteria but that said, it's not really surprised when the US is the biggest and most imperialist nation on the earth. The person who closest resembles that definition is AOC/Bernie, albeit AOC just doesn't have a deep record the way the others do.

Apparently the number of voters in the state is larger. So even if it seems that it was a good turn out, it was a similar procentage as in the past.

Also, comparing 2020 to 2008 doesnt say that much, because NH is an open primary. Republican leaning independents really had to make a choice in 2008 in what primary to vote, while in 2020 they knew that their vote is important only on the democratic primary.

It is really complicated and probably republicans are happier than the democrats with NH numbers.  :icega:
