But Iām actually getting sick of all the negativity black artists get on this site and thereās no denying. Every time thereās a thread about a black artist, majority of the comments that follow are negative not to mention threads that pop up every month about whether or not to say the N word While singing/rapping a song. Itās really getting annoying.

Theyāre not saying this to impress you or to try to make you believe them but who is she to question someoneās art? And she is generalizing. This has been a talking point against hip hop music for year so why is she even speaking on it in 2020? Lana Del Rey, Demi Lovato, and Lorde alsoĀ Ā sings sad/depressing songs butĀ God forbid this had been a hip hop artist saying this about her music they would be getting so much **** and had so many hateful comments under every post. But alot of modern rap discusses those topics, not all but a large section of it, and some parts of it gets repetitive and distastful, and it feels like it is glamourizing gun violence and drug use at times. I don't think its harmful, because quite frankly, I agree with her, she is right, alot of rap glamourizes things that should not be celebrated and glamorized, plus she didn't say ALL rap was like that, nor did she say all black people are murderers and drug addicts. But Iām still waiting for even a single person with a legit reason as to why they hate her. Criticism is perfectly good and absolutely necessary to differentiate the artist from the celebrity. But criticism usually involves some sort of reasoning.Ā I mean, so many of you complain about manufactured pop stars but here we have the closest thing to a legit artist to go mainstream in years and... suddenly we hate her? What am missing?Ā Somebody please explain. A brother andĀ sister making an entire album from scratch in her bedroom while sheās still in high school and now that album is playing on the radio... thatās pretty f**kin cool. It reminds me of how artists used to get noticed. And even if you donāt like her music, if you have any respect for music as art then I think this girl needs support.Ā Because if thereās any possibility of hearing a legit artist on the radio ever again then this girl would certainly be the one to pave the way for that.Ā Im going to make a wild guess and say the majority of you who feel threatened by her probably joined our fanbase around 2015-2017. Iāll let you know weāve already been through all this with Gaga. Itās tired. Hating people just for the fun of it is pretty sick.Ā

Thomas P 18,335
They really took that out of contextĀ I found the actual quote from vogue with her explanation and everything to be so well put and true, but this makes her look like sheās generalizing the same way Miley did back in the day.Ā Iām a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill. Miel 15,009
I think she's right and wrong. Yes, there are many popular hip hop songs that are meaningless and about the stereotypes we think it is. And there are many popular hip hop songs that are not. Same as there are many pop songs that are shallow and inobtrusive, and many that are not. I think it is a fairly naive statement to make, particularly the intonation of what she is implying is her view of the genre as a whole. And, whether we like it or not, it is a racialized issue, because of the genre's overt and inherent connection with Black communities worldwide. Should we destroy Billie over this? Of course not- she is a very young, upper-middle class white girl that doesn't know any better, and is in an immense spotlight. I wish for her to understand the weight of her statement(s) and why people are getting angry at her. Ā 3 points in and ready for more
