So suddenly gagadaily loves hiphop, just to bash her:triggered:

Maybe so. But I’m actually getting sick of all the negativity black artists get on this site and there’s no denying. Every time there’s a thread about a black artist, majority of the comments that follow are negative not to mention threads that pop up every month about whether or not to say the N word While singing/rapping a song. It’s really getting annoying.

It's problematic on her end because she's speaking on a black dominated part of the music industry and making harmful generalizations.

She doesn't generalize, where is that coming from? She just said many rappers are not actually a G when they are rapping about  "hoes and blau!!", it is all done just for the image. And did she lie though? It's not 1990s anymore where some rappers are actually gangs affiliate.

It's not that she's racist, it's just harmful for her to generalize a black dominated sector of the music industry and correlate it to gun violence and illicit sex. She should just be more careful with how she explains herself is all I'm saying in today's climate.

Is that not a generalization to say "many rappers"?

No, because that's what happens?

You would think you know better than her who are in the industry and would witness these in person?

I don't "think" I know better, I'm just saying I can understand why a group of people would find her comments offensive, that's all.

It’s their art! They’re not saying this to impress you or to try to make you believe them but who is she to question someone’s art? And she is generalizing. This has been a talking point against hip hop music for year so why is she even speaking on it in 2020? Lana Del Rey, Demi Lovato, and Lorde also  sings sad/depressing songs but God forbid this had been a hip hop artist saying this about her music they would be getting so much **** and had so many hateful comments under every post. Go check any of her posts and let me know what u find..

She’s not speaking about anyone specific. She’s generalizing!

She has a lot to say for someone who just started in the industry.

What does this have to do with her just starting out? A lot of people have thought about what she’s saying

But alot of modern rap discusses those topics, not all but a large section of it, and some parts of it gets repetitive and distastful, and it feels like it is glamourizing gun violence and drug use at times. I don't think its harmful, because quite frankly, I agree with her, she is right, alot of rap glamourizes things that should not be celebrated and glamorized, plus she didn't say ALL rap was like that, nor did she say all black people are murderers and drug addicts.

I mean everything about her music to her looks is stolen from hip hop artists but ok

What about her music is hip hop to you? I don’t even really like this girls music, it’s not my thing. But I’m still waiting for even a single person with a legit reason as to why they hate her. Criticism is perfectly good and absolutely necessary to differentiate the artist from the celebrity. But criticism usually involves some sort of reasoning.

I mean, so many of you complain about manufactured pop stars but here we have the closest thing to a legit artist to go mainstream in years and... suddenly we hate her? What am missing? Somebody please explain. A brother and sister making an entire album from scratch in her bedroom while she’s still in high school and now that album is playing on the radio... that’s pretty f**kin cool. It reminds me of how artists used to get noticed. And even if you don’t like her music, if you have any respect for music as art then I think this girl needs support. Because if there’s any possibility of hearing a legit artist on the radio ever again then this girl would certainly be the one to pave the way for that.

Im going to make a wild guess and say the majority of you who feel threatened by her probably joined our fanbase around 2015-2017. I’ll let you know we’ve already been through all this with Gaga. It’s tired. Hating people just for the fun of it is pretty sick.

They really took that out of context :saladga:

I found the actual quote from vogue with her explanation and everything to be so well put and true, but this makes her look like she’s generalizing the same way Miley did back in the day.

I’m a simple guy to please, if you like Melodrama, we chill.

I think she's right and wrong.

Yes, there are many popular hip hop songs that are meaningless and about the stereotypes we think it is. And there are many popular hip hop songs that are not. Same as there are many pop songs that are shallow and inobtrusive, and many that are not.

I think it is a fairly naive statement to make, particularly the intonation of what she is implying is her view of the genre as a whole. And, whether we like it or not, it is a racialized issue, because of the genre's overt and inherent connection with Black communities worldwide.

Should we destroy Billie over this? Of course not- she is a very young, upper-middle class white girl that doesn't know any better, and is in an immense spotlight. I wish for her to understand the weight of her statement(s) and why people are getting angry at her.
