This is silly. You're being silly.

...Are you out of your mind? :air: One of the campaigns involved in this primary funded the creation of the official Democratic party app that was used to tally vote totals... and that means nothing to you? You don't object to that at all?

I didn't say it wasn't a conflict of interest, I just said that it doesn't mean anything to the results.

You said that it meant "absolutely nothing." That is absolutely absurd.

As far as results in Iowa, it means absolutely nothing. Those results aren't going to change from what happened in each precinct.

I won't say anything other than this: that is an incredibly naive thing to think/say after this debacle.

No it is not, you're jumping to conspiracy theories forgetting that there are 1700 precincts and they tell everyone the results of their precinct before they go home after final count. If those totals were even a vote off, everyone would be screaming their heads off. I'm not being naive here, I think you just don't understand that what you're alleging is an impossibility.

I haven't decided how it affects my attitude towards the candidate who did it. To be clear, I didn't really like Pete that much going into tonight anyways.

At the same time, I think it's important to treat this suggestion/rumor that the results could be potentially false because Pete helped fund the app as nonsense. It's an implausible rumor being fabricated by conspiracy theorists (and I'll admit I have had my own fun with this tonight) and proponents of other candidates that are fuming because Buttigieg maybe outperformed their pick. The amount of internal control procedures alone that would have to be violated for that to even come close to happening is hysterical, not to mention that people left their caucus sites today knowing who won their precinct. It simply can't be done.

Why is Biden tanking so hard?
Wasn't he tied with Sanders for first place?
Are these polls even remotely reliable?

I oscillate between thinking caucuses should be illegal and wanting to be able to experience one.

This. Despite the fact that the negatives FAR outweigh the positives, there’s something kind of cool about putting your vote out there physically and being with other fellow citizens in a “fun” political activity.

Bernie supporters really like conspiracy theories. :trollga:

There shouldn't be caucuses in 2020. Maybe DNC will get it now. It is a format that doesnt fit the times and discriminates against categories of voters.

At the end of the day, this makes everyone look bad.

I feel like on the one hand it wasn't worth it staying up till 4 AM (different time zone; it's 9 AM now here), on the other hand, I learnt quite a lot from what I saw. (1) People are stupid, (2) people vote for people, not for policies, (3) polls really don't mean that much. Who saw Biden losing this big and Buttigieg (close to?) winning??

Even if these vote totals are going to reported exactly as they were tallied in their respective precincts (which could certainly be invalidated or downplayed via claims of "irregularities"), this has pushed the conversation about Sanders' potential win out of primetime, allowed Buttigieg to claim that he is going into NH "victorious," and dramatically affected the way these results are received by the public.

It is not at all conspiratorial to suggest that this is blatantly shady and certainly amounts to more than "absolutely nothing."

I suggest you two look into what happened in Iowa in 2016: https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/elections/presidential/caucus/2016/02/02/iowas-nightmare-revisited-correct-winner-called-caucus-night/79702010/

The Des Moines Register said, in their own reporting, that it "was a debacle, period. Democratic officials refused to undergo scrutiny or allow for an appeal and it reeked of autocracy. The Register's own editorial board saw multiple opportunities for error amid Monday night's chaos."

This is not some far-left publication. It's the same outfit that helped host a Democratic party debate just recently. They even called for an audit of the Iowa results: https://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/des-moines-register-audit-iowa-results-218731

We've already seen multiple instances tonight where Sanders went into a precinct with a serious lead (40+ more caucus-goers) and left with the same number of delegates as Buttigieg due to coin-tosses. This entire process is a disaster, from top to bottom, and there are countless opportunities for error/"corrections" from a party apparatus that has openly voiced their contempt for the possibility of a Sanders candidacy. Again, it is incredibly naive to dismiss all of this, and patently ridiculous and insulting to accuse voters of engaging in "conspiracy theories" for pointing out how blatantly shady this set-up clearly is.

Sanders was about to win the first major contest in this primary, thereby giving him extreme momentum, and it got overshadowed by some glitchy app made by incompetent buffoons. This means absolutely everything as to how those results are presented.

Maybe, if they can release the results before 6am it will still run the new cycle before the SOTU

You do not know any of this. It's completely absurd to write off what is clearly, at best, a massive conflict of interest by claiming that it means "absolutely nothing."

U really like conspiracy theories. :enigma: they said they will verify everything to make sure the results reflect the truth. What more do you want?

All is a mess, but some of you really enjoy it.
