Maybe not but she has support from her label and a great team who is pushing her. Her songs will be all over the radio this summer even if she has no personality. Then other producers will follow that sound for Selena, Ariana, and others.

Physical sounds too similar to Blinding Lights which is smashing rn and doing better than DSN (and probably Physical) to say she’s the one ushering in this trend.

Yea I think so. She definitely seems to have got in on a new sound that appears to be taking off and could very well be where pop music goes next.

I hope so at least cause I'm totally here for it.

And good for her on it, her new stuff sounds so fresh while having this great nostalgic feel to it due to its 80s and past decades influences.

that's not being a trendsetter though. By definition, you have to set a trend to be a trendsetter, not to identify the future ones :trollga:

Well I think her new era will be all over radio this spring/summer and plenty of producers will follow it for their pop stars.

I wouldn’t say so. The 70/80’s disco/funk/pop sound has been around for quite a while. I guess if you’re in that top 40 pop bubble you wouldn’t know that.  Dua’s version of disco/funk/pop is quite flavourless tbh but it’s presented in way a that people will eat it up. Don’t get me wrong the songs are good but it’s not exciting or trendsetting (and I don’t think it’s trying to be either).

Its smashing all throughout Europe and rising in the US because it wasn’t  chosen as the lead. Heartless was but now his label switched BL to the song.

Which was truly a mistake on their end imo.

Had they come out with BL (the far superior song, the other one is trash) as the lead from the beginning, it'd have smashed in the US at the start and likely gone #1 with the video (before The Box happened).

Yep, she’s trying to be a trendsetter, she basically says it in the Future Nostalgia lyrics :huntyga:

Gaga already did it with BTW, guess she was too early for everyone else.

I do hope LG6 goes toward a more techno/acid/house sound like the Haus Lab instrumentals (which is still to date the freshest thing I've heard this year in music).

Her sophomore album even from the name (Future Nostalgia) is clearly modern Pop with influence from past decades.

No other major Pop artist at the moment has a hit song with this sound.

Most popular songs now are mostly Hip-Hop/Trap/R&B and we have alt-Pop like Billie Eilish.

The Weeknd has released a song that is  80’s inspired as well (Blinding Lights).

Will Dua Lipa usher in a new wave of Pop music?

I really like her but let's not be delusional. What trend has she set?

Didn't Taylor do this like 5 years ago?  :triggered:
