Issue is there aren't enough specialists to deal with everything

 

Mental health in particular has surging demand and some in the US can't even afford them. If fam doctors are supposed to not get involved, some people aren't getting treatment period

 

U should think about all angles and factors at play before telling doctors to take a seat

Don't make me the bad guy because US healthcare system isn't working.  

I wouldn't want to be examined and later on diagnosed by somebody who didn't specialise in the field I have a problem in.

Pointing out a problem exists in the system doesn't solve it. The fact that it sucks doesn't change the reality

 

This is where the politicians supported can help but it's not by implying ppl shouldn't get care from the family physicians that it's gonna solve that issue

 

I never said u were the bad guy. But I do think ur not looking at all the factors of everyone's circumstances or the system as a whole seriously enough. I told a licensed doctor to take a seat. He can at least give his opinion even if you don't agree.

 

Also back to the coverage issue it goes beyond that, even here in Canada the coverage for ppl isn't an issue cuz it's free. And even still there's no choice but to have family physicians take on some of the load because the demand for mental health treatment has surged and it's literally completely impossible to have every single patient with some degree of need for mental health have their own phychiatrist

It's kinda Gaga's fault for indirectly/unintentionally hurt their feeling saying they are incompetence (not the exact word, but close) to treat mental illness patients and the patients should find psychiatrist instead.

I don't think Gaga is wrong per say. Specialists know more in their specific field than family doctors

 

But if every single case was refered to a specialist:

 

#1 what's even the point of a family doctor if they can't manage anything? Do we need doctors to go to medical school for 8 years only to refer patients else where for everything?

 

#2 there aren't enough specialists to deal with every single thing especially mental health which has blown up in demand

 

#3 in the case of the US coverage financially can be an issue for some

 

So realistically I think family doctors have to do what they can if a phychiatrist isn't available or your on a waiting list, or in the case where they can't afford it, maybe that's the only care they can get

 

I was treated by my family doctor initially because it took some time for a slot for a phychiatrist to become available. And while my phychiatrist was obviously more qualified, I'm glad I wasn't just left hanging until I did get to see him cuz it took a while

Yeah, her intention are good, but because she got that privilege, which is money, that's why it's so easy for her to say that.

It matters a lot because people hear message „everything is fine if your primary doctor is treating your mental condition”, where in reality it can do more harm than good (false diagnosis, years of taking medication with no effect).

I mean I have no knowledge on the subject but from an outside viewpoint, if he had to pass on patients to psychiatrists since mental health is one of the biggest things right now then he’d probably be out of a job or wouldn’t get paid as much at least since it would take away one focus he receives training for. And I’m sure he knows this so.

But then again if you’re famous for being a “hot” doctor (I don’t think he is remotely 💀 I think he suffers from generic WB syndrome) of course people are gonna listen to you. This will all blow over eventually anyway
