Economy 52,858
https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.5355517 Half of G20 Nations (which make up 85% of collective Green House Gases) are on track to meet their 2030 commitments The good news is at least half look set to meet targets and the other half many will come close to it. The bad news is many experts say those targets are still insufficient Canada, Australia and South Korea are the 3 Nations that are least likely to meet pledged targets on Paris agreement as they consistently overshoot in their emissions The US is not even on the list as they withdrew from the agreement. It is problematic as the US is still some 20% or more of world emissions (depending on estimates used, some say up to 25%) The US is not lowering emissions much due to fracking and and slower adaptation of green energy than Europe Canada for example has done well in green 0 emissions electricity like hydro wind and solar but the Oil Industry and slow adaptation of electric vehicles and fuel efficient gas vehicles is slowing down progress Another factor that this particular article doesn't get into but has been raised is that USA, Canada, Australia and South Korea have growing populations and faster growing economies than most developed Nations making it harder to lower total emissions while some European Nations have flat economies and some even shrinking populations, but even factoring that in, the 4 Countries are doing very poorly

As far as the countries that won’t meet those goals, not surprised. I have a strong feeling they’ll become more inhabitable as time progresses. The countries that pollute more don't necessarily get more global warming Here in Canada many scientists have said we're lucky. We probably will be less affected than most Nations because: - Not much of our population is in low coastal areas making rising sea levels less of a concern for us than some Nations - We have a huge amount of fresh water (600,000 lakes and some 18% of earths fresh water) so declining fresh water globally will take much longer to be an issue here (if it ever does) - warmer temperatures have actually helped make crop growing seasons a little longer and we are gaining a competitive edge over the US for growing grains because they are getting too dry - shorter ice months up north is starting to keep shipping passages for cargo open longer - Canada is not super prone to stuff like hurricanes or tropical storms. Atlantic Canada (which has only like 5% of our population) sometimes gets hit with a category 1 or 2 but that's usually about it Global warming ultimately isn't good for anyone but most of the trends don't suggest we'd be one of the worst affected. Sad tho. US, Canada and Australia are pretty wealthy nations that can do more and are just choosing not to . South Korea should be getting sh*t for not meeting it's targets too but the other 3 are wealthy and well industrialized and have no excuse!

No I completely get that it’s a global crisis believe me I do. I’m just saying that these specific countries are the ones that will end up burning themselves to the ground. It’s disgusting that people think it’s a hoax.

Their emissions are what they are cuz they have the world's largest economy (in real activity) and a huge ass population and developing economy

U mean burning the world along with themselves along with it? The way u worded it it sounded like u were saying their global warming would be worse than elsewhere

I don't think that's how it works The carbon emissions spread throughout earths atmosphere. A country producing more pollution doesn't mean that the warming will be worse there Also Canada and Australia are sparse nations. Even if it worked that way, were talking about them not meeting their goals but there's other nations with a higher concentration of pollution per square km

Thats not how it works sis unfortunately. Countries in Africa and island countries are already feeling the effects much more then the countries who are the biggest polluters Banned 04/19/2020 - 04/19/2020
