Exit has this aura of homey and seductive jazz atmospherics that just relaxes and soothes the mind with its glorious soundscape, but then suddenly it explodes all over your face, and there's this sense of dire urgency- almost as if some serial killer was out to get you. Beautiful yet gloomy; simple yet complex; passive yet urgent. I'd like to compare this album to some sort of nightmare: you're sleeping peacefully, but in your dreams this maniac appears out of nowhere and starts chasing you until you run out of energy and collapse; he catches up to you and starts stabbing you. Your body tries to wake you up- but you just can't no matter how hard you try. Eventually the maniac kills you and you're still struggling to wake up. The lyrics are deep, the arrangements are brilliant, her voice is perfect -- this is real music. Even the electronic songs on this album aren't part of the generic pop cookie cutters from most A-list singers. Was well worth the wait of 6 years! I only didn't give it a 10/10 because there aren't enough tear jerkers on this album, as opposed to Life For Rent.
