Still, it's an incredibly divisive movie. It's impact is still being felt today. That's why Solo bombed, and that's why TROS opened at a lower number than TLJ. Fans were annoyed and angry at TLJ, and I think people have to respect that. As much as some people love a movie, they can also hate it. 

This is coming from someone who liked TLJ too, that said I can understand some of the valid  criticism that came with that movie (albeit, there was some criticism that was completely unwarranted and stupid).

star wars isn't exactly the closest thing to non fiction but within the film it does make sense. it's explained that because kylo was growing stronger with the dark side rey was essentially chosen by the force to create balance. that in my opinion is much more interesting than being related to the villain again.

I loved The Last Jedi. I'm an obsessive Star Wars fan. I saw the updated originals and the prequels in the theater.  AND I don't think I'll ever have another experience in the movies like I had watching The Last Jedi at our midnight showing. Just transcendent.  For me, it was everything I ever wanted in a Star Wars movie. Rise of Skywalker was like drinking water out of a storm drain. I'm satisfied. Im not thirsty anymore, so that's okay. But it was just okay, and I wanted to be swept away again. Was really hoping to have my mind blown.

-Kylo Ren was wasted. Adam Driver held this thing afloat and got killed. 
-Rey Palpatine lol 

-the whole final battle. Joke. Uninspired. 
-Disney made a lot of money on fan service alone. Nothing interesting in this trilogy except Adam Driver.

I guess we may just disagree on this. It just seems too random to me. Having her be related to a powerful force weilder, at least, makes more sense than her just popping out of nowhere. Plus, it explains why Rey has had this battle between light and dark through the entire  trilogy. I mean, if she is supposed to "create balance" by being the embodiment of the light side, why is she so easily swayed by Kylo and the dark side sometimes? Now  it makes sense because she's a Palpatine.

I went today and OMG I am still processing everything, it was so jaw-dropping (especially when I just watched the others a few weeks ago). 

I cried since after *SPOILER* the battle between Kylo and Rey on Endor and then I would calm down but then some other thing would make me cry. 

But at the end I left with a smile on my face.

I don't mind fanservice since I am a fan of the original 4-6. I even liked 1-3 even if not as much. But the retconning makes me feel like he's appeasing the toxic manboy fans who still lives in their parents' attic munching on cheetos arguing with other similar kinds on the forum about things like this. Why can't Rey be a powerful nobody like Anakin was? Every once in a few centuries, you'll have geniuses like Palpatine or Yoda with exceptional ability to use the force. I think it's not that difficult to comprehend.

Here, let me explain in GGD terms. Lady Gaga is not Madonna's daughter. Nor is she related to Cher. Where does her talent come from?

Anyway, I love the fanservice since I get to see all the elements I loved as a child when I watched 4-6. But he totally casts off Kelly Marie Tran's character Rose is something I am more mad about more than anything else. This validated the bullies and will give power to them. Now fanboys will think they can bully someone and voice their opinions to get the directors to give them what they want. Rian Johnson made Star Wars look cinematic at least and tried to stay out of the boring tropes that Sci-Fi & Fantasy stories use to death. And the whole healing force really gave no meaning to death anymore.
