It is a no for me.  I do wrestle with this existential crisis more days than not, though.  I want to believe that there is a spirit we are all connected to and that life goes on after death (after all, energy can neither be created or destroyed, it only changes forms).  But dogmatic religion makes zero sense to me.  I tend to rely on the philosophy of Taoism and general, non-pseudo-science to inform my views.

But if life is inherently meaningless (which is where I lean), it sucks we waste our time, slaving away in the capitalist system, with the hopes of retiring and enjoying our sh!tty years of life instead of when we are young, vibrant, and most healthy.  What would most people do if they didn't have to work?  We don't carve out enough time to explore our humanity, the arts, writing, nature, the earth and cosmos, etc. 
Plus, we are all socially constructed creatures by our given society and also only recently evolved apes lol.  It's all a hot mess.

Thank you for this!  We truly are not that important in the grand scheme of things.  How cool it is to have so improbably been  born in this era, though.  Technology, science advancements, Lady Gaga...

Religion and other social institutions seem to exist solely for humanity's "immortality project."  "Terror management theory" suggests that the knowledge that we will each die is too heavy a burden for people to carry around in their day-to-day lives so we construct systems like governments, cultures, families, religions, economic systems and so forth -- in order to cope with that existential, frightening pain. 

I really like your point, here, because it highlights how self-important human beings can be in the vastness that is the Universe.  Again, thank you

thank you it's a very common concept among many modern witches or pagans, usually grouped under general goddess worship/mother earth worship. I have some personal aspects to my practice but for the most part I consider myself a contemporary solitary witch (as I practice alone and am not involved in group worship or a coven)

And my belief in a computer simulation reality somewhat comes from what being a witch has taught me about the universe, but I am also extremely interested in the simulation theory and personally it makes a lot of sense to me, so I like to believe that it's true.
