This film tried to forget TLJ ever happened and it's a rushed nonsensical mess. 7 & 8 deserve a better end than this.

Nah it was great

I have really mixed feelings about this movie... my main criticism being that it's more busy undoing (or plain ignoring) what The Last Jedi set up than anything else. How they could not have had a clear plan story-wise for this trilogy back when they did The Force Awakens kinda baffles me. I mean, I'm having a hard time believing this is what they've been aiming for all along.

Think whatever you want about TLJ, but at least it brought something new and unexpected. Here, the fan service makes the story literally border on fan fiction. So many things are so random and don't make any sense - I know this is sci-fi, but my suspension of disbelief has its limits....

Spoiler

I mean, this whole Palpatine is alive MESS..... How could any Star Wars fan buy such f*uckery? And like it wasn't messy enough, they had to make this the key to Rey's origins... I mean where the hell is this even coming from? Ever heard of foreshadowing, JJ? This is the most random thing ever. If you wanna make big revelations, make them make sense. Don't even get me started on Kylo's story arc... he's the super vilain we deserved for this finale, not this random zombie Palpatine nobody asked for. How Lucasfilm even green-lit this idea is very concerning.

On the good side: great visuals, some new locations are truly spectacular and the humor through it all makes it feel like classic Star Wars. But that overall story, man...... :diane: It has really reached a breaking point in mythology-building. If you care about those characters, I can't imagine how one could be satisfied with this film. It made both old and new characters dirty imo.

the story cant be good because the 2 movies before it were tragic as well. basically this whole trilogy should be non-existent

there is also no way you can defend that Rey isn't a Mary Sue after all her feats in this shitshow :ladyhaha:

As someone who didn't like TLJ, I enjoyed ROS.

I wished they did more with Captain Phasma and Snoke in the earlier movies, but what is done is done. I honestly feel bad for Kelly Marie (Rose Tico); her whole Codebreaker storyline with Finn was a huge miss, but I still think she deserved more lines and screen time in this movie. I'm glad Poe got more screen time. Loved the new regions we got especially seeing the Carnival. I'm not sure how I feel about Palpatine as the 'final boss' but overall, I enjoyed the film for what it is.

A few days on I’ve come to the conclusion that I think it’s a great film to end the trilogy but not the Skywalker saga. I wish they didn’t promote it that way and also include so much content/characters from the originals and rather kept it as a focussed end to the trilogy. They could have definitely done something with Snoke and if they made him a new Sith Lord they could have still done the epic final act and everything they did with Palpatine.

I really feel this finale could be longer. I didn’t mind a 3.5 hours films honestly. Just to get everything done well. Mainly because the rushed feelings of things. Since the movies was deconstructed on TLJ, there are few elements that is not really manifested perfectly. It feels like eating food that is not fully cooked. Or smelling a rose that is not fully bloomed. And there are not enough binding and emotional value for viewers, at least in my case, on why we should care on some characters when they do something or when they are killed. J.J should have been director for all 3 movies.

Still it is a good movie, it is a good closing. And it is still very Star Wars. But it can be so much better.

To put it simply, SW: Skywalker Saga, as one of of the biggest and most successful franchise in movies, could have ended the way MCU: Infinity Saga does. Another successful and big franchise. Both owned by Disney. Grand and emotionally infested. But it didn’t. And that is a shame.

Hope there are super extended directors cut being released one day to tackle this.

This trilogy was literally a huge waste of time, this movie was the final nail in its coffin

:giggle: There's always been a certain segment of the Star Wars fanbase that instantly reacts "I HATED IT!!!! :grr:" to every new release, even going back to the original films in the 70s and 80s. People literally used to complain about R2D2 being too cute

I saw this older guy storm out and demand a refund after the movie :lmao: As a fan since I was a kid in the 90s, it's consistently made me laugh how people react to these films

Everything about Rey and Kylo Ren is good. Everything else is from boring to acceptable. Too much fan service that takes away time from the characters that made this trilogy.

I have so many thoughts still that I need to flesh out. But above all else, it is absolutely unforgivable that Palpatine came back out of the ass cracks of the Sith to be the villain of this trilogy. They couldn’t think of anything??? Rey is a Palpatine??? But also was a nobody??? I’m just so confused. They ****ed up the whole Vader/Anakin redemption arc that made this precious series in the first place. Vader/Anakin died in vain. Snoke could have just continued to be the villain or something idk. They really ****ed up hard. You guys can **** on the prequels all you want but I hope people appreciate that overarching plot more now that we see there clearly isn’t one with this trilogy.

That being said I teared up when I heard the voices of all the old Jedi. My nostalgia and love for Star Wars is rooted in the Prequels, with the Jedi Order at their prime and the many Jedi masters using the force in cool non-fan-fiction ways and fighting for the Republic. (I high key don’t feel anywhere near the same love for Luke, Leia, and Han lol). Hearing the voice of Samuel L Jackson (Master Windu) and Liam Neeson (QuiGon)was awesome even if Rey was fighting Palpatine (FACEPALM).
