This single, and it's subsequent album The Fame, along with that albums' reissue the following year with an even more spectacular album than the first -- The Fame Monster -- was a completely magical time to be a Lady Gaga fan. It sounds corny I know, but you would have just had to have been there to experience just how fresh, brand new & titillating -- the absolute embodiment of excitement that Lady Gaga was at the time. She was clothed in a mystique that you had to just "get". Or not get. Sometimes it was baffling to the GP , and they would peg it down as shock value, calling her a hermaphrodite, a crazy sl*t, whatever -- but the true fans knew even then she was crafting the future of pop with every release, every single. Her vision was unparalleled. The lyrics, while jumpy and disconnected, described the feelings of a moment that urged us to all press on through the turmoil: just dance, it will be okay.
