I thought Gaga was really brave and inspiring except for the part where she said she was meant to deal with all of the pain.

Oprah asking about LG 6 was totally insensitive in my opinion. She shouldn’t have asked about it in that setting. I also felt the whole line of questioning was insensitive, glad Gaga corrected her with the „you‘re a cutter“ part.

I don't personally agree with her vision of having to deal with the pain and having to go through what she did either, mostly because I'm not a spiritual person and don't see the Universe working that way and it can be a very dangerous path to go down in but I think it's her way of accepting the things she's gone through and making peace with her reality. I don't relate to her in that aspect but if it contributes to her well-being then I think I can understand why she believes that.

And yeah, about Oprah's line of questioning I thought it was kind of insensitive at times too and I'm glad Gaga isn't one to shy away from correcting people without being blunt. She stands her ground and is very knowledgeable about her personal afflictions and it was very insightful to hear her talk about it so openly.

In my opinion Oprah should have skipped the whole LG6 part. They were having such a deep and interesting conversation and then she ruined it with LG6 related question.

Agreed.

I mean. She is the only one who owns her experience, and she has the right to make whatever meaning out of it that makes sense to her, but like, no human being on planet earth is *meant* to be raped. But that is my opinion and I respect her always.

Exactly..I just wanted to point out that I agreed with basically everything except that. But if it helps her deal with it better her feelings are of course valid.

What did Oprah say and what did Gaga answer? I probably missed that part because I lost connection every now and then for multiple seconds.

Oprah referred to her as "a cutter" and Gaga pointed out that she preferred to say that she was a person who once cut because it doesn't define her and it was just one of the ways her pain manifested.

Guys, I do not understand English by ear, so someone can write briefly about what Gaga said and what is wrong with the question about LG6?:enigma:

Thats an interviewing tactic: find that segue from the heavy stuff into something a little light rather than just end the interview in that heavier mindspace. Oprah's good at that.

Honestly it's nothing new. Oprah just asked her if she found time to work on LG6 (or something like that) Gaga said in a very mysterious ways "Yes ..." And then Gaga said something like "Don't worry, I know we're having a self-care conversation today but I will still put out music"

And then Oprah changed the subject :cryga:

EDIT: Oh and there's some GGD members that found the LG6 question sort of out of line with where their conversation was going. It could be interpreted as "insensitive" because Gaga was sharing so much and it was kind of a "trendy" question. I understand the concern, however, I found no issue with any questions related to LG6 :ally:

Yes, same...I’m curious to know why ppl don’t like her

I think it was because she stayed silent during the Harvey Weinstein controversy (from what I've read, they were friends?)  but was quick to jump on the MJ hate train when HBO aired the Leaving Neverland documentary.

Asking about it just felt a bit out of place because they were engaged in a really serious/meaningful conversation about mental health

Gaga talked about how important taking care of her mental health is for her and how she takes a plethora of medications, from antidepressants to antipsychotics, as well as several types of therapy that help her deal with it and how it's important to seek help and not be ashamed of it. She also thanked her team and called them a second family because they help her remain healthy and are of great help to her.

She talked about the trauma that stemmed from being repeatedly r*ped at 19 and how the industry didn't really help her deal with it because (like she mentioned at the Roundtable) it's a boys club where people get in the line of fire for exposing bad behavior.

She spent a good 5 years of her life in so much pain, both physical and mental, that she went to bed every night being afraid that she was going to die, that was when she teared up a bit and you can tell it was a loaded answer.

She said that she had a psychotic break after a triggering episode on a court deposition, which I assume was Kesha's, and it lead her to being hospitalized and was really, really awful and incapacitating for her.

It's basically an extended, more elaborated version of her interview for Elle with Oprah from a couple months ago but it was still pretty insightful and brave.

I see that as another interviewing tactic: receive what someone has said, present it back in a form others may perceive or categorize it in their head...if the interviewee doesn't challenge it, it sticks. That is what they meant and how they see things. If they do challenge it, the question has now triggered a deeper conversation with more illuminating information...which is what happened

Oprahs been doing this 30+ years for a reason :applause:
