C’mon Does that mean people shouldn’t take pictures in front of the pyramids because they’re technically burial tombs? We can’t compare burial tombs from thousands of years ago to memorials and graves for people who have died during our lifetimes. Or to memorials for tragedies. I personally will never pose in front of a grave or memorial. Especially for tragedies. Historical anthropological sites are fine because they actually document humanity’s history and are not typically memorials for things like The Holocaust. Context matters. Always. I think the technicality there makes it "ok". I mean, otherwise, who are we respecting? A few pharaohs that were dead and buried thousands of years ago on the backs of slaves and laborers? I think there is a tasteful way to have a photo op at one of these memorial sites to show that you can reflect on history and respect those that died horrific deaths...but a side-on insta pic isn't it tbh. It’s not like he went to just a regular cemetery and took a photoshoot. It is certainly not in great taste, but looking at the way the memorial was designed, it makes for a good picture I’m sorry to say, but you have to look at that context also. I would disagree, I think this would be the “best” (even though it’s still not in particularly good taste) way to take a picture seeing as how most of the photos that I’ve seen are guys with shirts off and just being extra with the poses (I even saw one with a guy with his pants half down his as*). All this is, is a standing side profile of the guy. He’s not posing extra hard or doing anything crazy. And because he’s a presidential candidate, it’s being looked at more, even though (I believe) it was taken when he wasn’t even thinking of being a presidential candidate. I feel like he would have come under scrutiny for anyway he would have taken this picture. Yes it is a memorial for one of the biggest tragedies that has happened in recent history; however because it is a memorial and not just an art piece, everybody that take a picture gets criticized. It’s a good photo opportunity and would be seen as one if it wasn’t a memorial.

Yes, random tourists take photos of it all of the time. But Pete Buttigieg is not a random tourist; he is running for the very highest office and should have shown better judgment than this. His husband thinking it was appropriate to post on social media is baffling, as well. e @TMM90 I agree it was in poor taste, but this pic was taken back in 2017 and posted then, not recently. Either way, it is distasteful. Taking pictures at memorials seems to be a common questionable practice that Twitter and Facebook has exposed. People have been taking pics in front of memorials in Washington DC for generations, but now everyone posts them for everyone else in the world to see. It seems like his whole life has been perfectly planned out so he could run for President one day. Also, he seems to have no core beliefs when it comes to policy. Whether it's being a proponent of Medicare For All a few months ago to now dismissing it as essentially unAmerican, or simply trying to run as a progressive a few months ago to now running as a moderate, he comes across as a soulless politician who just wants to attain power, unlike, let's say, Sanders, Warren, and Yang, who have solid beliefs and policy goals. One of them is a picture taken at a memorial, basically a tourist point. The other is outright disrespectful by dressing in costume, pinpointing and going to your “neighbor’s grandma’s” gravesite, stepping on said gravesite, and basically mocking the dead by posing on top of and around the gravestones. Let’s remember, context matters.
