Bernie has policies. So does everyone else. Everyone doesn’t agree that his policies are best for them or for the country. That’s why we have elections. 

For instance, Bernie’s student debt cancellation plan is one that I don’t agree with. “More” is not always better. I prefer nuance and forethought into the future.

If you don’t agree with his policy, it’s your right to believe that. I would push back just a little that a means tested, technocratic policy doesn’t make something more nuanced or mean it has more forethought into the future; rather, I find Warren’s approach to be extremely divisive and much harder to implement in a divided government whereas universal programs are in of itself universal and apply to everyone. I think when implementing public policy that universal programs have a broader appeal and are less likely to be rescinded (see how the Republicans tore away the ACA, but they haven’t eliminated Medicare as an example of this). The last thing I argue is that regarding your sometimes less is more comment, I’d prefer for the democrats to start at Bernie’s position and compromise to Warren’s in order to pass the bill instead of starting at Warren’s position and end up with tax credits, increased pell grants and other around the edges fix that I think hers would get watered down to in negotiation with Republicans. 

Either way, for me personally, my student debt would be cancelled in both plans but I prefer Bernie’s due to what I said above concerning means testing versus universal programs.

This new “comprehensive” immigration plan of Bernie’s is good in some areas & bad in some areas...

AGREE:

1. Reinstating DACA

2. Pathway to Citizenship 

3. Cracking down on employers who mistreat, punish & use the *illegal status*(of some of their immigrant workforce) against them!

DISAGREE: 

1. No to abolishing ICE!  (More so redirecting their main mission).

2. No to abolishing CBP!  (Same reason above ⬆️⬆️ )

3. No to decriminalizing illegal entry into this country whatsoever!  (We are a country that’s needs borders & to maintain them as well.)

See, I would rather start with Warren’s plans and go from there. For various reasons, that I won’t get into now, I would prefer a much different approach to student debt and affordable college than Bernie...or even Warren is proposing. I don’t worry about it too much, because that will be so far down on the list, it won’t happen under any candidate.

Definitely good with all the agreements. Is DACA a pathway to citizenship under Bernie’s plan? Warren is hoping to pass a bill through Congress, not an a Executive Order. 

Same with the first two disagreements, but from what I read he isn’t really abolishing ICE or CBP. (Most people here don’t understand what all that includes). Bernie is basically doing what Warren is proposing to do with ICE and CBP—-reshape Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, focusing the agencies’ efforts on screening cargo, identifying counterfeit goods, and preventing smuggling and trafficking, and ending the program that allows local law enforcement to be deputized as immigration deportation forces.

Number three is more about making illegal entry and reentry after deportation into the United States a civil offense, not a criminal one—-the same thing that Warren proposed in her plan back in July and that we heard from Castro during the debates.

Whispering is correct about border crossings becoming a civil as opposed to a criminal offense. 

 

Also bernies plan to restructure ICE and the CBP is to restore them back to pre 9/11 organization.

Well if you keep repeatedly entering the country after deportation, then I think eventually it should become a criminal offense!  🤷🏾‍♂️
