Their rich donators would laugh and feel unappreciated if they were given less than a bottle of super expensive wine. Which making Rolex watches a decent keepsake after donating tons to their charity event. They are not there to donate $100, they did much more than that. We are talking hundred grands worth of donation here. Just take it as they kinda “buy” those Rolexes with their donation money.  Easy. 

You would be surprised how common is this in that circle.  Not just exclusive to The Carters. Like, OK if you don’t get it, it’s fine. But don’t get angry at them for something you don’t fully get just because of your own personal situation. 

 

This is just an example of justifying and normalizing anything because of the idea that “it is what it is”.

You really don’t see the problem with what you said, like really? Laughable. Oh a rich person feeling “underappreciated” when not getting a decent token (or a Rolex maybe) after donating hundreds of thousands of dollars. Aw boo hoo.

And I’m not taking it as a personal issue. I even feel lucky to be where I am right now but I am not insensitive to world. I understand things that are more than just about me. And once again, if you don’t see anything beyond the core of the situation, boo fcking hoo.

Yeeeeeeah, saying "the super wealthy play differently" doesn't justify anything. Nobody expects them to live modestly but there is no doubt it's grotesque to hand out 8K watches for free at an alleged charity event. If you honestly can't see how disgusting that is, God help you.

I've never been impressed with the Carters tbh, ever since Beyonce poured champagne worth a student's entire college fees over her twerking ass ffs.

This is a pretty interesting take on charitable events and donations. I've never thought of them in that way. Do you consider most celebrity charity events a form of corruption?  What's your take on stuff like the Met Gala?

I can't really tell for the Met Gala, it doesn't appear to include significant "gifts" for those donating, which they do when they buy a ticket for the event ($ 30,000 iirc). The point is, when someone donate voluntarily for arts or charity, it does not qualify as a commercial transaction which implies the exchange of items of equal value between two parties. A donation is a gift with nothing expected in return for this voluntary act, well in theory.

Or you could see it as generous and appropriate. And who said that the "thank you" gift is what keeps them from donating? I think that as long as Bey and Jay try to help people and do good, it shouldn't matter what they gift their supporters. Gifts like that are a normal thing in those circles. You go to a launch, party whatever and you get a cool gift. For their standards a Rolex watch is probably nothing and as long as everybody has their eyes on the goal - which is to help people in need, who cares about that gift.
