Defending them is senseless Yeah... i never said otherwise? but what is u ethical about a gift in the first place? Its unethical if they used fundation money as i said but if they used their own to thank them for being there i still dont see the problem
CannaeDrive 3,412
It's basically an other form of corruption i.e. buying some sort of influence with "important" people to further their goal, whatever that is, albeit a socially acceptable corruption because it is charity related. This is just their standard. Just because its a luxury for us doesn't mean its a luxury for them. I don't expect them to be giving out t shirts This is what i meant by different standard and someone here mistook it for ethics thats not what i was talking about when i said they have different standards what we consider a gift to them is literally nothing. Like the gifts ud give to kids at a kids party vs adults at a fancy wedding isnt the same in this case what a wealthy person would consider a gift is different again, as long as the money wasnt taken from the foundation for the gifts, and it was payed for by the hosts. I really dont get what the issue is ppl hate on rich individuals simply for being rich. Duh of course their lifestyle and standards will be different than ours if u wanna get angry, get angry at the system and the politics that allows for such insane income and wealth inequality. Dont hate on the individuals themselves if they didnt do anything wrong someone being rich in itself doesnt make them bad imoral ppl and they shouldnt have to refrain from spending to not offend someone actually... being lavish like this at least puts money back into the economy with things and services they buy.... if rich ppl dont live like they are rich thats even worse cuz then the money really only stays hoarded at the top even more and never trickles down at all

LOVEDRUG 10,791
the issue is that in an invitation for a charity gala (remember, charity is about helping disadvantaged people) it basically seems like they're just bragging about how much money they have by giving out watches for free. sure they can buy all their friends watches if they want, but at a charity event? really? it just feels like they're rubbing it in the faces of the people they're 'trying to help'

JohnnyVersace 9,030
You have to entice donors to support your charity. Whether that's through Rolex's, dinners, or say Lady Gaga performing at the Met Gala in 2009 ( ), it's all the same. I swear some of y'all truly don't understand how this world, or the industry works. If you think that they paid for every single Rolex you're delusional. They were likely a sponsor and donated the watches in order to have their name prominently featured on the promotional material and/or stage. ...which in turn entices donors to give more and more money to a cause that helps people in need. It's ****ing damned if you do, damned if you don't with you guys.

What Insensitivity? I mean is it really that hard to understand? When you are wealthy you have different standards and ball game. Their rich donators would laugh and feel unappreciated if they were given less than a bottle of super expensive wine. Which making Rolex watches a decent keepsake after donating tons to their charity event. They are not there to donate $100, they did much more than that. We are talking hundred grands worth of donation here. Just take it as they kinda “buy” those Rolexes with their donation money. Easy. You would be surprised how common is this in that circle. Not just exclusive to The Carters. Like, OK if you don’t get it, it’s fine. But don’t get angry at them for something you don’t fully get just because of your own personal situation.
