A dress worn by Lady Gaga to this year’s Golden Globes awards has become the subject of a furious row after it was put up for sale by a hotel cleaner who found it, without the consent of the designer.

Gaga wore the periwinkle-blue silk gownin homage to a dress worn by Judy Garland in the 1954 version of A Star Is Born.

After the January ceremony she left the dress at the Beverly Hilton hotel where she was staying, and where the awards were hosted, as she expected a team from Valentino, the designer, to collect it.

Gaga has since stated that the dress was never her property, but it was merely on loan from the label...”

A mess, a kii, and a crackle. I don't think the auction has the right to do it though as this seems to be like stolen property.

I’m sorry but how do you accidentally forget to pack such an important dress?:interestinga: you’d think they would’ve put a little more effort if they “cared” so much about it:interestinga:

Sis is just trying to collect some coin, don't be mad at the hustle!:ally:

Gaga thought Valentino was gonna collect 🤷‍♀️

The only part of this that seems shady is the use of the word "gift" in the letter of authenticity and the implication that Gaga left it on purpose for the maid as such. The maid wouldn't have known the dress was a loaner when she turned it in, though, so maybe that was her interpretation of the situation. I'm really surprised that the hotel didn't contact Gaga's team when the maid turned it in initially. And WHY didn't Valentino report it stolen on, like, Jan 9? I feel like Valentino needs to write this one off and let the auction proceed.

I guess it will come down to what 'abandoned property' laws are like in California? If Valentino didn't file it as 'stolen' until more than 9 months after it was left at the hotel, and made no effort to collect it, what's the procedure? I'm honestly really curious about what will happen.

Can this ever be a finders keepers losers weepers situation?  :oprah:

Nnnn, a mess:poot: I feel like a quick text like, “y’all have the dress?” Would’ve solved this predicament but oh well:poot: bad luck:poot:

So isn’t it technically stolen property? Couldn’t she get arrested for having it? Or does the hotel rules protect her?:oprah:

If it's true that the maid turned it into the hotel's lost and found and it went unclaimed for months before they gave it back to her, I kinda feel like she should be allowed to auction it. While I understand it's Valentino's dress, it's been missing for almost a year now and they waited until this week to report it to the police? If the dress was really sitting in the Beverly Hilton's lost and found for months without being claimed, then clearly Valentino was not making even the slightest effort to find it.

I think the best case scenario here is for Valentino to take the dress back and give the maid a very generous compensation for her honesty and efforts to get it back to its owner. Doesn't sound like Valentino would have even realized the dress was missing was it not for this lady.

Did honestly NO ONE realize this dress has been missing for 9 months? Like neither Gaga or Valentino's team contacted each other about the location of the dress??

This situation is a lesson in stupidity and tbh the maid should be able to make some coin, she did everything she was obligated to do

First off, why wait until October to report it as missing or whatever? It doesn’t make any sense to blame this woman for reselling it after she went through the right procedures to obtain the dress.

i mean, I wish I had her luck tbh :ohwell:

Although I wouldn’t resell the dress :laughga:

It's not really been stolen if they kept it in Lost and Found and then no one claimed it. :poot:

She's a maid working a low paying job. A sold dress will do good for her much more than an old dress she'll never wear again will for Gaga.

Lmao at the maid saying Gaga “left me the dress” like??? She has no clue who you are, how could she possibly leave that dress to you? Anyway, arrest her, take the dress back & figure out who’s going to be taking the dress after shows from now on. Designers have people take the dress after shows all the time so I understand why Gaga thought to leave it there for Valentino. The thing I can’t wrap my head around is this maid actually believing in this “finders keepers” sh*t. Sorry but no, that’s not how the world works. Just because you found something doesn’t make it yours & because no one claimed it definitely doesn’t make it yours. How could they claim it if they never knew you had it? Ugh whatever.

So Valentino didn’t realize they hadn’t gotten the dress back yet until it was reportedly going up for auction? If they didn’t miss or need it for almost a year, surely they have no use for it. And if it’s that important I think they can afford to just bid on it.
