It's not about perception, that is a fact. Again, most of what I saw here was people disagreeing with the "people thoughts" you talk about rather than saying it "wasn't an issue" at all. If you acknowledge these "people's thoughts" yet give your view of it you're not saying there is "no issue here" or "dismissing" them. You just express your vision of things. That's the core of what these discussions were so far imo. It's a forum, you say it should be taken a certain way cause you find it normal just like they think it shouldn't and say it... We're all giving perceptions here.

It’s the indifferent people like yourself who continue to refuse to see why someone else is offended and why it’s valid. As this post of your confirms, you are pushing your indifference onto everyone else and have no regard for how others feel about THEIR cultural/sacred symbols. I wasn't talking about everyone being offended, I was pointing out that we only seem to reserve respect for certain kinds of offence and asking why we do it and why it's acceptable at some times and not at others. I'm not an indifferent person. And I've never said the offence wasn't valid, just added my own take on it. It's hardly a radical perspective to think that two very different cultures are going to view the same dress in different ways and what the limitations are. As long as something's considered ok in your country, do you have to give a thought as to how anyone else feels about it? Do you have to examine the views of all 241 countries before putting anything out into the world? And again, this seems to only be a pressure put on whites. Other than the time I saw Pharrell get accused of cultural appropriation by wearing a Native American headdress, I've only ever seen whites get accused of this. It's clear it's aimed at a particular group and they're being watched for any signs of slipping up, held under a microscope in a way that other races are not. I'm saying I'm sick of it. 22 hours ago, ANTI WP said: @Morphine Prince don't waste your time 😊 ignorant and unbothered people will always be s at the end of the day They don't deserve your education have a great day . It’s like the end goal sometimes is “there is no more racism” and if there is racism, it’s only against Whites apparently. I'm not cherrypicking, I just picked up on the general gist of the article, like everyone else. You really want me to read every tweet/comment ever associated with this piece? Don't be ridiculous. And nowhere did I say that American born Chinese didn't count, you have flat-out put words into my mouth there. I meant everyone who's ethnically Chinese when I said "actual Chinese," regardless of where they were born, it was about race, not nationality. So, some people had a problem with it, that's life. But it wasn't the majority opinion by any means. You've said all this stuff about Asians like I don't already know it. But it's not directly connected to a girl wearing a Chinese dress to prom. Do you really think people decided to hate Chinese culture after she did that or something? That a white person wearing something not from their culture made them automatically hate that culture? That's not how discrimination works. I just think it's a shame that on her prom, an occasion where a girl's supposed to feel beautiful and have a good time, this girl's outfit was blasted on social media. That's why I'm glad I grew up just before social media took off the way it has now. People who actively feel the need to put a girl on blast on her prom night for how she dressed really needs to take a look at themselves and imagine how they'd feel if someone said that to them. But notice how that's not the angle that you went for? Because only one side matters in this feelings debate. How does wearing something from another culture erase that culture? That's nonsense. I said myself that I have no problem with any non-Scot wearing a kilt. I have no idea why they'd want to, especially when worn to their wedding that isn't even held in Scotland, but that's beside the point. Everyone should be allowed to wear whatever they like without feeling bad for it. My culture isn't erased because someone from another indulges in it. That's OTT ownership entitlement. How does a culture become a culture? Because someone came up with an idea and shared it. If it's not shared, it can't become part of the culture. Sharing culture puts the country of origin on the map and shows their global influence, it's a positive thing. I bet you anything that even if Kacey wore the dress properly, she'd still get harassed for culturally appropriating merely for wearing the outfit in the first place, just like the prom dress girl. People who become fixated on cultural appropriation are never satisfied. The ironic thing is, when white people do stick to their own culture, it's then belittled for being lame, boring and vanilla. I've seen it happen, leaving them in a no-win situation. No wonder so many whites dip into other cultures when this is what the reaction is. To quote one of Kacey's songs: "you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't, so you might just as well do whatever you want." I don't know anyone here who says that there's no racism. And certainly none who are saying that it's only towards whites. And I've not said anything like these things, if that's what you're implying. StrawberryBlond 14,888
Just now, Morphine Prince said: It’s victimization. Explain to me how it is. Where have I said "look at these poor white people" or "white people are the real victims of racism now" or anything else remotely like that? I've never denied that white people (in white dominated societies, at least) have a racial privilege. But that doesn't mean white individuals haven't been picked on due to their race and that's wrong. You don't need to be a Trump supporting Republican to see when there's agendas forming to demonise all white people (you can't even call these agendas "anti white" because that's apparently a dog whistle now even though I don't know how else you'd possibly describe such hateful movements). Liberals act like only conservatives form hateful agendas. Anyone can do it. Liberals are hating on whites more than ever right now. You really can't deny that. It wasn't like this when I initially became liberal. We used to fight for fair treatment of all, now it seems to be if you're deemed privileged, you should suck it up. The whole concept of modern liberalism isn't what I signed up for, but that's another story. In the words of Bill Maher: "Democrats have gone from the party that protects people to the party that protects feelings. From 'ask not what your country can do for you' to 'you owe me an apology.'" I was talking about calling white people names like mayo/cracker/honkey/lily white in a public space and have it deemed acceptable, using the word "white" in the description of a person in the form of insult (i.e "a straight, cis, white man"), making fun of white culture and calling it lame and boring, suggesting that whites should pay more taxes and generally higher prices than minorities, having racial hate crimes committed against whites not being filed under hate crimes and outright denying that whites have ever experienced racism and that racism agisnt whites doesn't exist (despite many instances to the contrary, usually involving cold blooded murder, which never get reported on). These things have always happened, of course, but never to the extent it is now and never to the point where these behaviours are deemed acceptable. As a law-abiding, empathic member of society who wants everyone to get along and be treated well, this stuff is the opposite of progressive to me and breaks my heart. They'd wish they were only getting called names. And by the way, this is mostly on the Internet, it's easily ignored. Try having an entire system designed to work against you and marginalize you in every segment of society.
