There’s a lot of people that didn’t believed in Shallow and we had a slap on our faces, for example :huntyga:

I agree with all except for Applause. You should have put G.U.Y to take it’s place!

Now that was a wasted single

I must disagree because Applause  clearly remarked the decline of her carreer, at that time. Maybe it was the less-wasting single, but it wasted her carreer as well. People were so disappointed, they expected much more from it (also critics didn't appreciate it). G.U.Y. is not even a single, come on, she never promoted it.

Applause was the only song that kept her visible among the GP during/after the ARTPOP era up until her comeback era. So that’s the only one I disagree with on the list. I still hear Applause on the radio to this day.

Do What U Want helped keep her relevant before the backlash.

GUY is an official single though.

5 singles that WASTED Gaga's carrer:

 2) 'Marry The Night' (2012)

The song was so unsuccesful if compared with Gaga's previous singles. Moreover, the song was nothing relevant  and the concept behind it was not clear for the people. No doubt 'Marry The Night' signed Lady Gaga's decline also in the charts (it was Gaga's lowest position into  the Billboard Hot 100, until then).

3) 'Applause' (2013)

You could say this should not be in this list, but the truth is that it should.  This was officially the beginning of the worst Lady Gaga's era . People waited so much for Gaga's comeback, but that time it was no good at allConfusing lyrics,  a strange and  ill-posed concept. A song clearly made for the charts, but that (on the contrary) did not have a great success. Moreover, the single was completely destroyed by Katy Perry's 'Roar', which was released the same day, taking pop queen's crown  away from Lady Gaga and giving it to Mrs. Perry

5) 'Perfect Illusion' (2016)

It was Gaga's umpteenth flop. People were hyped for her return, but after that they lost any hope  about realeasing a song that could help her carreer. Fortunately, the subsequent single 'Million Reasons'  was more appreciated, also by critics.

Gaga's career isnt wasted at all... but there are very few singles that didnt exactly help her in a positive was... infact, the only two I can think of are Judas and Do What You Want.

Yall stop attacking GUY.

GUY’s music video restored the respect, vision and artistry to the ARTPOP era. it served us real visuals. It gave us stunning Roseland appearance. And it was ground breaking ART. GUY, if anything, is her best MV video and one of her more coherent songs ever

I agree. Even though MR was only a smaller local hit, it was her first chart/radio success since 2013 and it was very much needed at the time.

It meant she wasn’t chart poison and that radio wasn’t boycotting her, which seemed to be the case.

So you really put applause (one of her biggest hits) on that wasted list and didn't put GUY ????

What the actual ****:awkney:

Come on, GUY had 0 impact in any way. The era was long dead, the GP had already decided she was over. That single would've flopped whatever song it was. Releasing GUY did nothing either positive or negative for her career.

Not really. People seem to forget MR didn't even make the top 50 before the Super Bowl. The song received all the promo possible, including the SB which is arguably the biggest promo slot on earth, and it still only managed #4 for a week (I won't even mention its international chart positions).

By the time MR became a "hit" (it really wasn't but we'll go with it), she had already cleaned up her image with C2C, Sound of Music, National Anthem and then the iconic halftime show. So it's not as if MR did anything to clean her image or change her reputation.

I actually think some of her best hits were also songs that ultimately held her back.

1. Pokerface - Swapping BDR for PF seemed like a perfect plan, but was it worth losing another #1 for EOG when they competed it against Hair? Was the destruction of the ARTPOP era worth competing DWUW against Venus?

2. Bad Romance - Paparazzi was the first song to really show off LG's full set of skills, and it was a thematic link to The Fame concepts; would it have creeped higher on the charts, and possibly earn Grammy nods, had BR not cut its run short? Would BR being released later have allowed it to stay at #1 for a period too long for the Grammy voters to ignore?

3. BTW - The impact of this single can't be contested; but, by being chosen as the lead single at a time when almost any release would have gone #1, were expectations set too high?

4. Applause - Her biggest radio hit, but was it the proper lead for the ARTPOP era? Could songs like Venus, GUY, and Aura have ever succeeded after such a generic intro?

5. Shallow - The song that gave LG a 2nd career peak also seemed to c*ck-block other ASIB songs from getting their chance to shine; with less longevity, would ARUTW have at least gotten an Awards show performance?

Aside from these, the biggest mishaps with her singles have been the ones she didn't release IMO. Otherwise, Alejandro is the only other one I would add to the list since it was an abrupt and disappointing finale to TFM era peaking at #5 when Speechless, DITD, and/or Monster would have all likely hit the top 3. It also started the religious controversies, but gave us a stunning MV.

Why is PI considered a poor lead by the way? I would have preferred Diamond Heart as both a lead and album name (followed by Million Reasons, Perfect Illusion, and DIC to complete the cycle of falling in love, falling out of love, and loving yourself), but don't see PI as a poor choice. Also, anyone think The Cure was a miss? It kind of signaled an admission that the Joanne era had flopped but wasn't really anything special enough to cause a change in perception.

This list was solid until Applause, replace it with G.U.Y. and it would be accurate
