Middle easterns/arabs are actually considered white in the U.S. They were not subject to segregation like african-americans. Liberals are just being hysterical and shooting themselves in the foot by helping conservatives get elected. My ME friends refer to THEMSELVES as brown all the time. So I'd imagine some segment of the population regards them as brown.

The fact of the matter is, from a legal perspective, arabs were considered white in the U.S and did not suffer from school segregation and such like african-americans. They were among the very first minorities to enjoy having the right to become full american citizens. So yeah, please don't equate black history in the U.S with arabs. Mexican immigration grew larger in the late 1900s, that's 1980-1990 for you. And that's why past the era of "black face" use. Moreover, Trudeau here was dressed as an arab, in an arabian themed party. How is this related to mexicans? Arabs = white, legally speaking in the U.S. So stop being oversensitive over stuff that don't matter. Brownface isn't exclusive to Arabs, it can be of other ethnicities as well. Clearly. Blackface was used in the 20th century to mock what was at the time second-class citizens (african-americans). Arabface/browface did NOT exist, however desperately some liberal media try to claim it did. You know why? Because the supreme court already ruled from the start of that century that arabs are full american citizens (caucasians). To conflate the two is quite frankly disrespectful to the history of african americans, especially for someone who claims to be liberal like yourself. This is hysterical liberalism, not real sensible liberalism.

Morphine Prince 109,768
Not exactly brownface but this is a very popular character who was played by a white man interpreting a heavy accent Bolivian: He even regretted this character later on in life: Though he defended the character as “a perfect example of a person that wanted to be assimilated into American culture, learn the language, always looked spiffy,” he retired the role in 1970 when he decided it was playing into racial stereotypes and embraced by people he though were intolerant. “It was people I met in this country who would tell me ‘Boy, shore love it when you play the dumb Mexican’ that made me want to drop the character,” Dana told the Los Angeles Times in a 1970 interview. People change/evolve/learn from stupid dumb things they did and they should be forgiven. I suspect this will be the reaction of most Liberal voters, but could see this pushing anyone on the edge of being more progressive to Green/NDP. The reaction to this will be completely different than if it were Scheer, as we have a much better idea who Trudeau is and have seen his policies in place. At the same time, I feel like as a white Canadian I don't have much to add apart from this was wrong and unacceptable. I hope this stimulates tough conversations, primarily among white Canadians, on reckoning with racist behaviour and beliefs in the past, present and how we can tangibly change going forward.
