Over a thousand people are marching through Sarajevo's Titova Street, from the World War Two memorial called "Eternal Fire" to the parliament building at Bosnia and Herzegovina Square. With many threats and homophobic comments from much of the population, the Parade is being secured with the help of 1100 policemen and several hundred private security officers. Half of Bosnia's population is Sunni Muslim, a third is Serbian Orthodox while 15% is Roman Catholic. Sarajevo, being the country's capital, has been called the "Jerusalem of Europe" because before the war in 1992, Sarajevo was the most ethnically mixed city in Europe, while even today ethnic tolerance in the city is on a good level, especially being compared to the rest of the country. One could say that Croatia is ahead of Bosnia & Herzegovina and Serbia when it comes to gay rights. First Zagreb Pride took place in 2002, and as of 2011, we have Pride Week as well. Life Partnership Act has been passed in 2014 as a response to the referendum (2013), by which the people decided that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. Also, by some extent, gay couples can adopt children as well. There are many other laws prohibiting all discrimination as well. Nevertheless, Croatians are still mostly negative towards LGBT community (and mostly not aware of the others - QIAP+ etc.), but it gets better every year, I guess. We are kinda trying to be more Western, and as slow as our progress is, countries like Bosnia are even more behind, for which the political and religious influences should be put to blame imo.
