But have they not proven that there’s different structures in the brain with gay and trans people? So maybe not necessarily a gene but still biological differences. Isn’t there also hormonal differences?

There has been a study of Transgender Women have brains that formed similar to the brains of Cisgender Women.

The only problem is they also scanned Cisgender Gay Men and found they too also have brains that formed similar to Cisgender Women.

So it gets even more complicated and there isn't a "yes or no" answer.

The gene that links to smell actually makes a little bit of sense if you think about it. A large part of attraction comes from pheromones so what if those with "gay genes" aren't able to sense the pheromones from the opposite sex but they can from the same sex? That could definitely be a contributing factor to being gay.

Idk, just a thought.

This study clearly shows it’s many genes that MAY drive certain sexual behavior.

There is no gay gene. These gene variations also don’t guarantee someone will be gay.

This basically is what i always believed

sexuality is very complex and influenced by both biology and our mind

i believe theres multiple genes that influence sexuality in addition to environment and upbringing

sexuality is far too complex and too fluid to just predict like that

its also why i dont agree that gays are “born that way” necessarily.

While im all for empowerment and acceptance... a baby has no sexuality, it has not developed it yet. And its experiences will to some extent shape its preferences

or sexuality may have influences from multiple genes but we are not born with our sexuality already set in stone.

I believe as we grow up a complicated relationship between both biology and experiences influence and shape our sexuality until we mature... and even after puperty, preferences have been known to shift over time

There is no one gene that determines a person’s sexual orientation, but genetics — along with environment — play a part in shaping sexuality, a massive new study shows.

Researchers analyzed DNA from hundreds of thousands of people and found that there are a handful of genes clearly connected with same-sex sexual behavior. The researchers say that, although variations in these genes cannot predict whether a person is gay, these variants may partly influence sexual behavior.

Andrea Ganna, lead author and European Molecular Biology Laboratory group leader at the Institute of Molecular Medicine in Finland, said the research reinforces the understanding that same-sex sexual behavior is simply “a natural part of our diversity as a species.”

The researchers were able to find five genetic variants that were statistically associated with same-sex sexual behaviors, but none had a large effect and none could itself predict same-sex behaviors. One of the variants was found in a stretch of DNA that includes several genes related to the sense of smell. And another one of the genes is related to male pattern baldness, which the authors said could suggest that sex hormone regulation may somehow be involved.

These variants, along with thousands of others in the human genome that have even smaller effects, together accounted for 8 to 25 percent of variation in same-sex sexual behavior, the analysis showed. Some of the variants were correlated with same-sex sexual behavior in men, others in women, and some in both.

Eric Vilain, director of the Center for Genetic Medicine Research at Children’s National Health System, said the study marks the end of “the simplistic concept of the ‘gay gene.’ ”

Wierd how scientists need to prove what many already done knew....

I'm glad NYT wrote a proper title to its report about that new study, cause some sites are writing just "there is no gay gene" and then in the commentary section you can see people saying things like "see? It is a choice, you ain't born that way".

Like, :fthis:

Some people only see what they want to. I bet some of them didn't even read the article.

I agree with you. But, some people who are using this new study to back their opinions that "gays are not born that way" are not being honest like you are. They are using it for religious and hateful purposes.
