How big would the outrage be if Gaga released BURQA in 2019

Definitely. The angrier vocals on the demo version were much better. The final vocals felt... lazy?

If we never got the demo, I'm pretty sure my opinion on the final would be way different.

Definitely, but Gaga leaked the demo for that reason. She wanted us to hear it the way she wanted us to hear it. I don't think I would love the song as much as I do had it not been for the demo

Probably a slight backlash, but she’d come out of it triumphant. This definitely wouldn’t have killed her career. For one, Muslims are a minority that have very little interest or involvement in popular culture, unlike say the gay community. Two, Social justice warriors have very little impact in the real world. You only hear about them online. Three, it’s just not particularly offensive in the end. I miss Gaga when she was like this. She wasn’t afraid to piss people off and make enemies.

THE OUTRO ON THE DEMO THOUGH! :bradley:

Imagine if the final version had the 2013 demo vocals and the Burqa demo outro. :firega:

This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.

2013 was a weird time—several celebrities were wearing burqas as "fashion," but even back then there was some backlash.

Several years later tho—the backlash would massive. At the same time, the internet moves on fast and people would forget about it after a while. It's the one leak where it's clearly Gaga (many leaks that Gaga has not confirmed are questionable)...but I feel like she's never confirmed it specifically because she's aware of the song being a potential PR mess. I think she meant well and that it was supposed to be a defense of letting women wear what they want, but it was still a bad idea. The melody/vocals are amazing though....

It would get her flack. However I find it completely undeserved in regards to this track and it's intent. The arguments against it were always misinterpreting the lyrics 100%

Social justice flack especially regarding white female artists is more impactful then ever. Muslim women/people were incredibly vocal about the track upon its release, the anticipation of this type of response contributed to why it was not released as a lead single option btw even though it's clear she wanted it to be.

The song is inherently inoffensive imo. A single burqa metaphor would be overblown simply to hold her down.

That's not even what the tracks about though. That's like a miniscule sidebar with a single burqa metaphor (that yes would be overblown and was but I digress) to the overall message of ownership over your own expressions of strength or vulnerability as a person/woman etc.

The song is also created by Israeli producers and we all know the messy history between Israelis and Arabs.

Other than sjws on Twitter nobody would really care but she’s not even making fun of them or anything so idk why people would be anger anyways. However I would have had way more respect for her for going against public opinion and releasing what she wants

She never did anything for the sake of pissing anyone off... except potentially this song if she'd released it in demo form.

Because the vocals are simply better. The speaking for the verses on the final version don't do justice to the lyrics like the growling on the demo

Oh yes they do :flower: the album is about bringing things that normally wouldn’t be together, together. A loud & crazy instrumental with loud & crazy vocals is expected. But when you take away the loud vocals and replace it with soft & cutesy speaking, it adds a whole new prespective to it and solidifies the album’s theme of coming together :legend:
