Correct me if I'm mistaken but I thought the media ruined Pepe through exaggeration and conflation? Then internet trolls mocked the media from that point on by using Pepe in the way the media had portrayed it.

I do think 4chan gives internet culture a bad look.

I mean it leaked and has been confirmed that the FBI is not treating white nationalist extremism as a high priority actually. They've been doing dumb **** like investigating "Black identity extremists" under Trump's suggestion when it comes to terrorism. There's a great clip of AOC taking the FBI to bat and asking why they arent putting their resources into investigating radicalized white men for white nationalist Domestic Terrorism and they basically were like *shrug*

So I wouldnt be surprised if they used to under Obama but now do not or have little resources going towards it.

That is definitely true, the media seemed to unintentionally inflate Pepe as well, unfortunately
