Thats why Peter has an ear piece, they're constantly communicating with each other. Pete is just the "big scary guy" you don't want to mess with. That person was a complete idiot for running to her like that with the guards around her. She's not as controversial as she used to be, but she's still an avid supporter of LGBT+ rights and a vocal antagonist of trump. That makes her pretty controversial in the eyes of some and much of the GP remembers her for being controversial back in the day. She's just not AS controversial as she used to be.
