Despite the wait, I'm glad Gaga still believes in the concept of album

Every month I read several articles about how nowadays albums are pretty dead. And I have to say we are really lucky that Gaga still believes in them.

She doesn't spoil her albums releasing half of the tracks before the album release. She doesn't divide albums in several EPs. She doesn't release standalone singles (The Cure is an exception). She puts a lot of of effort into creating albums (and yeah, we know that several times this means scrapping lots of songs/concepts).

I mean, yeah, if it were up to us, she would release a new track every single day, but I think that at the end of the day this has more value. An album is like the epitome of an artist's art and I'm really glad Gaga is aware of that.

I disagree.

Albums are wonderful, but there's no one way to release music. Like, who invented the idea of an album and decided that was the best way to release music? Just because it's industry standard doesn't mean it's the only, or best way.

I'm fine with albums, but if Gaga wants to experiment with releasing more EPs, or standalone tracks, or just releasing tracks as they're done, then hell yeah.

I guess he/she didn't mean that it IS obviously the best way, but that he/she prefers it this way:shrug: And I have to agree on that actually. I think there's more passion when there's a full body of work

You're generalizing to the point of unfairness though. Yes, some struggling d-list artists like Jessie J and Marina (sorry, I love her, but it's true) are dividing their albums up awkwardly and artists like Katy who simply have no album appeal are forced to release standalone singles but there's still so many exceptions :oprah:

Look at Ariana and Beyoncé for example. They focus all their attention on albums and look what happens: they've never sold more of them with album-equivalent units taken into the equation. Beyoncé's last era gave her the #1 globally best-selling album of the year. And that's because she released an interesting album package. Same with Ariana. So it's not like Gaga's the only one trying to create good albums or whatever :emma: It's only the people who are flopping who have to come up with a different idea.

To be completely fair, Gaga hasn't released an album in three years. We can't be sure of how the next album's promotion will be.

Releasing several songs before the album doesn't necessarily mean the album as a whole is not as important.

Releasing several EPs can actually be a great wayto develop your creativity, helping you concentrate your efforts into fewer songs and perfecting them.

The Fame Monster is considered an EP and Gaga's magnum opus.

At the end of the day, where's the real value? It's not really about the way you release your work, but the work itself. Charli XCX's mixtapes and Lana del Rey's multiple songs from Norman ****ing Rockwell are far better than anything Gaga has released in recent years, so I don't really care about album/EPs/singles/promotion as long as the work is good.

I dont get the albums are dead thing. Everyone is releasing albums still... like... who isn’t who is relevant? and it just makes sense. Getting one song at a time every now and then is annoying, and artistically to put together a body of work that conveys a message has a lot more depth and chances to be artistic than putting random songs with no connection to anything out.

the only people who are like: albums are dead. Are the flops that wont have their labels release one for them

I didn't mean to diminish what other artists do, sorry if I gave that impression. Of course every artist has the right to do what they feel more appropiate, there is no good or wrong way of doing it. But since I love the concept of an album, I'm just glad that Gaga proceeds the way she does.

I'd much rather have stand alone singles and EPs, and an album rather than waiting 3 years for a project to come out. Gaga has been in the studio with Bloodpop since December 2016... like we need something.

Think of it like a restaurant. Stand alone singles are the appetisers. EPs are the snacks, and albums are the main course with music videos being the dessert :cryga:

But if Gaga pulled a Rihanna and released 4 stand a lone singles between now and when LG6 dropped, I doubt we would be that mad. Its the fact that Gaga has been in the studio for 3 years and has been teasing stuff non stop... and now we have haus labs to deal with too :neyde:

I'm sure music labels are the issues and not the artists themselves. I think many commercially weak artists would want to come up with an interest concept for an album. Albums are the highest form of releasing music and they require a lot more promotion than a single or a mix-tape would. Therefore labels are (contractually) bound to invest money in the project to ensure it gains them a profit. However, if nobody streams or buys the singles or the album itself and nobody attends the tour the label would make a huge loss so they simply do not allow flopping artists to release proper albums.

A Hybrid

Tbh I don’t exactly see the point of an album if it’s 3 songs around a theme and 10 other random songs that are somewhat similar... Miley’s 6-track EP is the best pop music we got this year and that’s a fact.

Sorry she’s not your cup of tea anymore, but you are clearly in the minority considering Gaga is coming off a career repeak. Shallow could very well end up being her biggest hit of her career.
