Segregation had ended, Civil Rights Act had been passed, racism had been denounced internationally. Now we know Reagan was a disaster not only for economy but also social issues. The Republicans' beloved Reagan actually called for more gun regulation and said civilians shouldn't own guns. His voter base and even NRA all agreed with him because the gun owners they were talking about were the black panthers. The racism jumps out every moment of the way for them. The repercussions of the "War on Drugs", specifically on inner-city Black communities and border Latinx populations, are still festering even today. The military coups that lasted all through the 50's into the 90's in Central and Southern America have factored into many of their issues today.
