jacs vs looser 4,238
My bet is because of Gaga's "these songs are Ally's, not mine" perspective. And I think it's a shame, it's probably the best song from ASIB, and with a couple of televised performances and being sent to radio it could've smashed. #JusticeForVenus, I mean #JusticeForARUTW
Inferno 2,880
I theorize shallow did better than anticipated and they just ran with it to milk it for all its worth and keep building it up to become what it became, which was Gaga's first #1 in years and a huge streaming and video single for her. They achieved that by the consistent performances and pushing it on streaming and basically demanding radio play it (because from my perspective radio really just didn't want to play it until they absolutely had to and only let that ride briefly till letting it go where it now resides solely on the depths of adult contemporary stations middle aged women put on at work lol). Of course that's u.s., it seems overseas they were way more down to embrace it. The u.s. is just like hella hesitant to let gaga back in tbh, like that's how I interpret it anyway. She gets a hit and it's like everyone's like ".....wait are we all down with this? Should we actually spin this?..." lol

The album and song did well because of word of mouth. PR would have killed it, so thank god they just left it alone and let the audiences do all the promoting. I agree with you that those songs are as much her work as any others, however, I'm pretty sure Gaga has stated otherwise (In some of the interviews done during the ASIB era)
RichAssPiss 4,922
Gaga was trying really hard to be taken seriously as an actress during the ASIB era. It was very important to her Oscar campaign that people not see this as a vanity pop star vehicle with lots of radio hits. This was echoed in every decision. Not filming any real music videos. Using the live versions with crowd noises for the soundtrack. Using dialogue on the soundtrack. She made it hard not to think of the film with the music or to think of it as "Lady Gaga music." Churning out radio hits would give this more of a "pop star vehicle" feel. Gaga wanted to be taken seriously as an actress instead. Honestly, if you think of this as her priority it makes almost all the choices make sense.

RAMROD 109,528
The answer is ENIGMA, you guys Her grand opening date is in the same year as the release date of ASIB. She don't have time to do extended promo for ASIB and release new single from it. She had to do her rehearsals before the show opens and all that. (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ dancin' until i'm dead (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
FfFfFfFF 55,859
It was released in select countries though. Maybe they though Shallow is enough to carry the soundtrack since it's still charting to this day & didn't want to affect its longevity.

Ok but 1. she decided her first major role to be a musical 2. she released a music soundtrack + a lead single for it + music videos uploaded to her official youtube account 3. all songs from the soundtrack are featured entirely and partially in the movie, so we are basically talking a movie with almost 20 songs in it. DonnieDarko 10,186
The Dark Horse copyright infringement trial revealed, that promoting Dark Horse as a single cost Capitol Records more than $30,000,000. And y'all wonder why ARUTW wasn't promoted as a single in the US. via @Supersonic
