That ship has sailed.

It is curious why they didn't release a follow up single with many to choose from.

I'm sorta offended by this post. Why people always trying to discredit Gaga's hard work? ASIB was amazing because of her song writing not other people. And i hope she has full creative control over her next album.  Period.

It hasn't been a year.

People talk about ARTPOP more and that was 6 years ago.

bUT bOpS!!!1

notice how I used the word almost :poot:

also promoting the film and talking about it are different things. I'm not saying we shouldn't talk about it, we just shouldn't pretend that ASIB is still worth promoting now, months after awards season :huntyga:

Yes you are right. I just see so many people dismiss ASIB because it's not bops.

I agree with the OP in a sense. Gaga is pretty hit and miss with her concepts and it shows in her various levels of success.  I agree that she should involve other people while still being the one in control. But we don't know what goes on behind the scenes. Maybe ASIB songs was all her control (aside from the story of course). And even Joanne had other people involved yet no one thought the PI vocal was horrible?

I say milk it until the Grammy deadline and then move on to LG6. ASIB could still pick up more awards.

I think Shallow performed well and before the Oscars they didn't want divide the attention  between two songs. Shallow boosted Bradley's chance for an Oscar too.

I guess after Oscars it wasn't planned anymore, because she would release LG6 lead after the Met, but they postponed because the longevity of Shallow and constant personal life rumours.

I'm sad, because I think we will never listen ASIB songs live. I expect after Grammys Shallow will take out from Enigma playlist too.

Semi-disagree. ASIB was a fantastic era, but like most Oscar contenders the film—and by proxy the soundtrack—were overexposed by media coverage in the end even if ARUTW barely got a push as a single. It would have made sense for her to perform some of the songs live, like a mini concert or on talk shows, leading up to the Oscars and maybe even right after the Oscars. I actually thought it was really weird that she wasn't the musical guest on SNL or something like that when the movie was released. But its time has passed imo, although I think she should include more tracks for concerts/Enigma or at least ARUTW.

Also kind of think Gaga might be hesitant because of the rumors around her and Bradley. I know the VMAs have gone way down in prestige and multiple performers are kind of annoyed with MTV, but I feel like if the rumors weren't so rampant she might have performed at the VMAs. But performing Shallow at an event with so much media coverage would just get people talking again...plus it's pretty clear Lil Nas X is going to win the two categories she was nominated in.

Regardless of whether it’s old news to fans, pushing back new releases farther away from what was an unexpectedly 2nd-career high seems so nonsensical if it wasn’t done for the sole purpose of allowing the ASIB era clean up. I have to come to terms with the fact that  she missed so many great potential smash singles from other eras, but shes literally tossed away about 8 Grammys because of how badly the soundtrack strategy was executed.

Had “Shallow” been released weeks later, it would’ve swept this years major categories. But they released it during  competitive season, and held the soundtrack until after the deadline for what now seems to be no reason.

Leaving aside accolades, a ton of time, talent, and work went into ASIB soundtrack and to not let songs like INLA and ARUTW reach the GP is insane. Both would’ve cemented her “Whitney” moment, charted top 10, kept her relevant to the GP until LG6, and relevant to this year’s Grammys.

There’s no doubt ASIB is a better body of work than the train wreck of a field this year and yet even nominations aren't lose to guaranteed.

just not sure what this entire blackout was, I guess.

Sort of disagree. I feel like the label should have released the soundtrack before the deadline even though last year's field was stronger than this year's field—any album released in October is going to lose nearly all of the momentum since it's over a year until the Grammys it is qualified to compete in.

I think the big issue was the movie was coming out in October and so they had to release right around then—if the movie had a limited release, to qualify for the Oscars, and then had come out in January along with the soundtrack the album probably would have lost less momentum in terms of the Grammys. But an October release meant more $$$ for the movie and the soundtrack was dependent on the movie's release.

But I disagree with the idea that the album release was badly executed—the label had to work around the movie's release date and the soundtrack ended up being one of the best selling albums of the year, topping the chart, and went platinum in multiple countries and multi-platinum in the US.

I do agree the label botched the single roll out. Shallow barely got a radio push, and if Gaga had done some live performances on SNL or Jimmy Kimmel it would have raised the profile of the tracks. I think it debuted at 4 or 5, and that was with barely any media attention since nearly all of the media was focused on the movie in particular, and no live performances to promote it. If Gaga had done SNL as a musical guest and brought out Bradley for Shallow, I bet it would have gone #1 in the first or second week and not after the Oscars.  Plus, if ARUTW had been released before the Grammy deadline it probably would have been nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance and likely even won. If she performed it at the Grammys, it would have given it a huge bump on the charts and she could have had two #1s, or at least two #10 tracks, from the soundtrack.

I kind of wonder if the label didn't expect the soundtrack to be such a huge success, and therefore hadn't spent a lot of $ and time promoting the tracks because they figured it wouldn't be that big.

I personally don't think she's hit or miss. I have enjoyed everyone of her albums.  But i would rather an artist who is hit or miss but actually creating their own work rather than a industry produced performer who's just a face for the product.
