When will electropop / dance-pop return to mainstream?

Like a lot of other people, I loved almost every song from 2008-2013 in the mainstream, then since the ARTPOP era ended music has kinda sucked mostly in terms of top 10 hits. 2018 was just LOTS of hip-hop / mumble rap / latin pop with hardly any big artists doing electro-pop apart from Ariana with 'No tears left to cry' / 'Breathin', Ava Max's unexpected hit 'Sweet but Psycho'. I just miss the days when Gaga, Kesha, Katy and RiRi, (counting all the other massive pop girls too) were the ones to follow in the mainstream. What do you guys think, will it ever return or is it gone for good, and why? :oprah:

Idk, but I hope it makes a return. Honestly I realized last year I don’t even like pop music - just electropop. Pop from other decades just doesn’t interest me. Only stuff from like 2007-2013. Outside of that I’m more into alternative/rock/folk.

Well probably another 20-30 years after 2008. It happened to rap and 80s music. In fact 2008-13 was basically a rehash of the latter w a new twist... and so is this new wave of hip hop. Electropop as we know it now isn’t coming back... not without a twist at least

EDIT: also there are song genres that never made a full comeback yet like 60s doo wop n stuff... so it could also be the end of everything.

But forget the mainstream. Indie artists keep everything alive. Love them more.

It'll probably come back as a genre but not in the specific sound you're referring to.

The cool thing about 2018 is that unexpected release of Ava max because that’s the kind of music that we like and haven’t seen in a while. I bet we will look back in 5 years and say SBP was a memorable song of 2018.

I think the the public really craves a Gaga moment again. A pop album w some weirdness. It’s weird to think ARTPOP was released 5 years ago, because ever since then it feels like just yesterday I was a senior in HS getting ****ing lit over applause and the announcement. It’s all nostalgia.

I agree reed music needs to shift back to pop. I feel like everyone’s has their hit single moment w different genre’s, and the GO might not want to admit it but it’s obvious that we want that meaningless pop bops back. Seeing that SBP was a huge hit.

Electro pop is a super dated sound, while dance pop continually evolves over the years and never truly goes away. I can’t see electropop ever coming back unless it’s purposefully throwback. Have you ever heard of the 20 year pop culture cycle? I can see that music coming back in about another 10 more years.

It never went outside of mainstream though. I think you are referring to a certain type of pop, that ''generic'' late 2000s party sound but the hits over the year have always been classified as dance-pop - still. In US maybe it faded out of the top 10 sphere I guess but in the rest of the world hip hop isn't that big  and pop is still the main genre.
