Also, Ursula was inspired  by a drag queen. She herself isn't a drag queen, so it doesn't make sense to say that it was "written and intended for a drag queen anyway".

I know, I already clarified that in my post above.

Melissa is a great actress who  could very likely do a great job of portraying Ursula. But Ursula was not only inspired by Divine, but Howard Ashman also wanted her to voice her before Divine's untimely passing. So yes, it was originally meant for a drag queen. 

This was one of the few opportunities in the industry which could afford drag queens any  representation in Hollywood. Which is why I wish a drag queen got the part, and why Ginger Minj even reportedly auditioned for the part but didn't get the call back.

It's actually set in the Mediterranean (or at least the original was). The only reason Sebastian was Jamaican was to take advantage of their music and bring a "fresh feel" to the animated film.

Inspiration and intended are two completely different things. The role was inspired by Drag Queen Divine. Doesn't mean the role is solely for a drag queen to play.

Ariel has always been written & intended for a Red head with, rose colored skin, so I don't see a problem with them giving Ursula's role to a cisgendered white woman, if they can do the same with Ariel
