I think this was done because Gaga loves Diane and felt it was about time Diane finally got an Oscar, especially for such an powerful message of a song. They stuck together to be an even more powerful force, campaigning like crazy. I do feel without a writing credit they'd be a just as powerful of a duo. This is what they both agreed upon and it might not seem fair, its their choice. I hope Diane will win someday soon and have full credit, because she is a legend.

If anyone had actually listened to the various interviews they did, they were both upfront about her not writing the lyrics and instead emphasized her contribution in regards to the composition. I think Diane got her onboard because she possibly thought having a high profile person involved would increase her chances and visibility for a campaign. If she wanted Gaga in there that's her business.

I don't like that Gaga did that. That's something I expect from Beyonce. 

I know we were all pissed she lost the Oscar, but it was a blessing. It would suck for her be awarded for not really writing it.

I thought we all knew she just changed that one line at the end and produced it... And I don't think it's a big deal that she got credit. She deserved the credit cause from what it sounds like Diane's original version was just a melancholic song about being a SA victim whereas gaga made the ending more triumphant and sort of a survivor anthem. Also she gives out credit like it's nobody's business on her own songs so it's not like she's just milking her credit just to benefit her (although I get they were gunning for the oscar)

I never liked the song even a little bit so to me it never made any difference lol

but i will say, its obvious she was involved in making it what it was, so why shouldn't she get credit? that being said, it does make her look hella bad for having done that gotta admit.

I mean who cares. Haha never really claimed to write it. Not many singers do what Gaga does and actually acknowledges the songwriters and takes them on promo tours. I never believed Gaga wrote much for it

They already talked about the process. Gaga had some input on starting out singing more sad and getting stronger/more angry toward the end. I don't think they ever really tried to give the impression Gaga was a huge impact in writing the actual lyrics or anything.

I don’t understand why this is an issue. I feel like we have all known since the beginning that she didn’t write the lyrics but rather changed the bridge and composition of parts of the song? She also structured the vocal. Thats still forming the song and deserving of credit. 

Writing your music can be both solo and collaborative. Gaga does both to create a good song/or have a good artistic experience. I don’t think this has ever changed her credibility as an artist. Even the most iconic and heralded singer songwriters collaborate with others.

we can be really glad that she didnt win the oscar. otherwise this could be a huge scandal and she propably had to return the oscar. and for her reputation as well because people would think she does it always like that.

I love how people now are all "who cares" when back in the day they were obsessed with defending her, pretending we should just assume Gaga did co-write it and Linda Perry was lying (remember y'all trashing her?) When the issue is no longer relevant now everyone is gonna put their heads in the sand? Typical.

It was a very embarrassing episode in Gaga's career tbh She was supposedly spreading awareness about rape and it seems that she cared a lot more about securing a ****ing Oscar. I'm not saying the two motivations don't mix but it was very weird to witness, just like it was weird to see that only an undisclosed "portion" of the TIHTY proceedings was going to unmentioned charities And the worst thing about that whole period wasn't even Gaga but the fans who themselves cared more about the Oscar than the issue of sexual abuse or the question of whether or not Gaga deserved a writing credit: you know, the question they always use against Beyoncé and Katy?

Glad that era's over. But also glad the record is finally set straight.

Considering Celine has written a total of 5 songs in her entire career and Whitney a total of 1 song I think this is a bit different situation especially since Gaga always has the "I am a songwriter" narrative behind her. But I agree it doesn't matter the song is great and gorgeous the only thing that is taking away from it's value is that Gaga got an Oscar nom for it. I mean she's got a writing credit but it's been a controversy ever since the song came out  I'm glad they didn't win the Oscar for it, I mean I am sad for Diane she needs to finally get one, but glad Gaga won with a song she actually was the main writer on.
