Halle Bailey will play Ariel in The Little Mermaid

Lmao I can’t at some of you having strong feelings about Ariel being black. First of all, it’s a live-action adaptation so they could change as much as they want and if you feel that there is a lack of representation for “red heads” or better yet whites then go ahead and watch the original animated film. This movie isn’t taking anything from anyone, it’s a whole new thing on its own. Don’t like it? Fine, stick to the original. Secondly, the color of her skin literally did not matter in the animated film and it shouldn’t matter now. Did it matter for Jasmine? Yes. Pocahontas? Yes? Mulan? But not for Ariel. The little mermaid is my favorite Disney princess and I love her because she is a rebel at heart, I’m pretty sure Hailey will be able to embody that spirit.

Okay I just saw this and now I know why she got the role. She’s beautiful and her VOICE! wow.

OH WOW! She sounds so 'Old Hollywood', I love it! Red hair or not, I think she will do an amazing job!

When did I ignore that? You said ‘mermaids don’t actually exist so they can look like anything’ while there’s a clear image of Ariel described in the book. I only thought you didn’t know about the book and inform you. It was you who kept perpetuating the idea of me ‘quoting the book to my advantage’ when I ain’t even Caucasian in the slightest. :awkney:

That clear image of Ariel is once again made up by a fantasy, so Disney can create their own version too, it’s not that hard... I meant ‘quoting the book in their advantage’ because you are only focusing on her hair and skin tone while Disney changed soooo much more when they did the animated version to begin with. So why would it a problem to change some stuff again now in this version?

The way some of you throw a fit when a white character is played by a PoC but stay seated and eat your food when a PoC/different culture character is played by a white person. Mmmmmmhm.

Never had a problem with the changes in the first place. Like I said in my previous 1 million replies, only mentioned it cause I thought you didn’t know.

Does it matter? Damage is done

If Disney really wants to shake things up they should be remaking these movies but based directly on what happens in the books. Now that would spice up these fairytale movies! Lol :ladyhaha:

A few years ago The Lure was released, which is a modern take on The Little Mermaid that is more faithful to the dark tone of Andersen's original story. Highly recommended.

Well then we didn’t need this discussion anyways. I’m sorry for being too enthusiast about expressing my opinions. We are on the same page and you tried to show the reason why people are disappointed, so I shouldn’t blame you for their opinions since it wasn’t your own.

Actually I can say if it’s bad because it’s SUBJECTIVE. I don’t care if other people think it’ll be good or bad because that’s THEIR opinion. I’m allowed to judge something based on whatever I deem has enough merit. & just because YOU don’t agree with doesn’t mean I don’t have an open mind.

also before telling me what I can or can’t do at least turn on autocorrect if you don’t know how to spell like come on... that’s what it’s there for 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

but the thing is auto correct changed my spelling and I didn’t notice, stop diverting sis 😂😂😂😂
