hausga 615
Swift’s lawyer, Donald Passman, has now said that Swift was not given the opportunity to “purchase her masters, or the label, outright with a cheque in the way [Borchetta] is now apparently doing for others”. After the purchase was announced, Swift quickly took to Tumblr to call Braun's purchase her "worst case scenario," saying she has suffered "incessant, manipulative bullying...at his hands." She added, "For years I asked, pleaded for a chance to own my work. Instead I was given an opportunity to sign back up to Big Machine Records and 'earn' one album back at a time, one for every new one I turned in." https://www.billboard.com/articles/business/8518597/taylor-swift-attorney-don-passman-buy-masters-big-machine Like the stars chase the sun Over the glowing hill, I will conquer Blood is running deep Some things never sleep
hankhatesyouall 2,731
So? Was her label obliged to offer her an opportunity to buy her masters? They are allowed to make deals with whomever they want.
TSUNAMI 21,021
If Scooter was so fair and good and whatnot there wouldn't be an issue with giving her work cataloque back. Just admit that you're a paper gangsta, reveal your true nature and don't use other artist platforms to make yourself look better. Nobody cares for you irl outside this scandal. You're here for money, not to make anyone wishes. I'm at the Taylor side simply because it's her work and her emotions and she should get rewarded by it. It just means that she wasn't given an equal opportunity to purchase her own work and that was what she was ranting about?

Bio 23,538
Of course not, if he sold them to her his label would lose 80% of value lol. He's not dumb.

Scooter never claimed he was here to make peoples wishes and that is not his job, his job in the business is to obviously make money and its not a bad thing. The issue is with the record label and her contract, not scooter.

Remember this is the time when problems such as piracy and illegal downloads were rampant . now they had made a massive profit out of her . they just decided to just buy her entire master's recording without her consent nothing knew here just a classic case of greedy men in collar suits wanting to exploit a young female artist really Why would he ask her consent to buy something that does not belong to her? The issue is with the record label and her contract, not scooter. Michael Jackson bought The Beatles copyrights by force even though they did not want this to happen. dit 46,483
Honestly i think the best way to end this is for Scooter to offer Taylor a chance to buy her masters even for a super huge price. Like I'm sure even if he hikes up the price to some ridiculous amount she'd purchase it at this point. This way she owns her songs and he fixes this PR nightmare for himself and also makes money (with huge gains). It would be the best route to make everyone happy I think... For me, it's always a bad thing when arist is abused for their art and hard work. She was the one writing, singing, dancing and making it all come alive. Now it's like she never did anything, Scooter did it all.

Like I said, the issue is not with scooter, the issue is with her record label contract and not offering it to her. Attacking scooter is just stupid. Also, no artist owns their work, this is the standard contract. If you want to own your work, be an independent artist. Yes Taylor sings and dances, but there is a work machine behind her that makes her dancing and singing #
