It's complicated—like rn, I do get why some people are angrier with insensitive and/or racist moves, because the atmosphere is just raw right now everywhere. I'm a WOC and have a lot less tolerance for f*ckery than I did five years ago.

At the same time, people make mistakes and there's a fair amount of white people who do (possibly) offensive things unintentionally (I'm not talking actual blackface, but more like Sia's situation) out of sheer ignorance instead of hate. I highly doubt Sia went "wow, this will look terrible out of context"—she probably just didn't think about it. We can't cancel and destroy everyone's careers for mistakes at this level (just want to add that of course people should be cancelled for the truly heinous, next level sh*t). Plus, it is absolutely true that certain things weren't viewed as offensive seven years ago–nobody would blink an eye at a white woman wearing dreadlocs or an afro wig or wearing a kimono. And it is frustrating because there are so many men who have done far worse (and some don't even acknowledge they f*cked up) and they rarely face the media backlash or are completely written off.

I will say that I have much higher standards for politicians, though, but I agree that in general it's good to not put people up on a pedestal even if you love them as an artist, author, etc.

Shading Swift is one thing, but please tell me this isn't real. I used to enjoy her songs... now I can see why she is publicly shaming Taylor and Swifties.
