gagzus 23,635
I’m not as in tune with American politics as I was in 2016 but knowing he’s gay already tells me he stands no chance. Democrats (hopefully) know this time around that they still have to appeal to conservative voters to win an election properly (although I could argue the whole Electoral College thing is bullsh*t but anyway) so there’s no chance in hell Dems will let an LGBT member represent them when US is high on taking away and attacking LGBT people as of late especially gay and trans folks the most. In short, it’s better to vote for the more obvious front runner (which will probably be Bernie but he will have to be less socialist in his views tbh) because even liberal America isn’t ready for a female or gay president because of the times we live in. They have similar platforms, but so much of Bernie's policies rely on him getting his tax hike passed. What if that doesn't happen? Warren's got a plan for that! So I like that. Literally every single one of Warren's policy proposals turn on getting various tax hikes and reallocations of funds approved by Congress so this distinction makes absolutely no sense. No, she doesn't "have a plan" for what she'd do if Congress were to block her funding mechanisms. That's an empty campaign slogan.
Othon 34,299
"He'll have sound gun policy because he's a veteran?" What are you talking about? That's completely ridiculous! For the love of god, look into who this person is before you all start fawning over him. This man has only ever been a mayor of a small town, and by all metrics he's been a pretty bad one. His record on addressing racial inequity is abysmal: his town's black residents can't stand him: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/apos-ain-apos-t-ever-205451474.html He helped fire the town's black police chief because he recorded white cops saying and doing racist things, has been widely criticized for the way he's handled the recent shooting of a black man by a white cop in South Bend (he skipped the vigil held by family of the man who was killed and gave a speech to the cops instead ) and his one major "accomplishment" as Mayor was a redevelopment program that ultimately gentrified a portion of town and pushed black and brown residents out of the area: https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/henrygomez/mayor-pete-buttigieg-south-bend-gentrification Politico did an in-depth look at every one of the candidate's bases of support and his is almost entirely white liberals: He has no major policy proposals aside from a moronic plan to fill the Supreme Court with 5 conservative justices, five "liberal" justices and five "neutral" justices (whatever that means). So, no. I'm not supporting him. Neither should any of you.

He said he's for helping those low income families though. If you can afford to pay your debt without going homeless then why do you want the government to pay off a debt that you willingly took. Also what happens if Warren or Bernie doesn't get their tax hike approved which to be quite honest they won't. Plus this new green deal will cost a lot of money. Also to add that they can't just slash the military budget because they are way more powerful than one thinks. What happens then? Bernie and Warren entire campaign is rooted in Tax hikes. If they don't get it what happens? Raise our national debt by 10-15 Trillion dollars? Where our debt would be significantly higher than our Gdp? Trump is lucky in the sense he can get away with huge budget deficits because our debt is still serviceable. Democrats may not be so lucky with all these Trillions of dollars they wanna spend and not explain how we are gonna pay for it IF their tax hikes don't go through. To be quite honest I have no idea where this country is heading and its scary because I love this country so much and it has given me so much. Trump is not “lucky”, our national debt is blowing up because he is giving money to the most wealthy in the country. You know what those people do with their money? Hold onto it! You had no problem saying you would vote for this idiot again...who drove up our debt to give rich people money they didn’t need! A college debt relief plan would mean that low income and middle income younger generations would have immediate income to invest in the economy. They would start renting apartments, buying cars and furniture, buying homes, etc. They would have money to invest in the future of this country. (Which you say you love so much) If we don’t do something about the college debt problem, we are headed for a recession FAR worse than the housing crises. Let’s just hope we have an Obama in the White House at the time and not a joke like Trump. Trump would have let us go full blown into a depression before he agreed to give aid to lower income and middle income people.

I get what you're saying but you didn't understand anything i said because your judgement of me is clouded by what i said said yesterday. Yes Trump is lucky because our debt is still serviceable. Having a Green new deal, plus investment in infrastructure plus wiping out student debt plus Medicare for All all at the same time will expand our budget deficit far more. We need strategic policies. As i said, I like Pete because he wants to help low income and middle class families with student debt. Your reply is as if i was totally against it, giving me an entire story about the benefits of student debt forgiveness. Again your judgement is being clouded because of what I said about Iran. That's fine. Also, I am for raising taxes however the extent to which we want to do it would drive companies out of the country because other developing countries would become more competitive. Alot of people talk about years ago when we had high taxes but fail to acknowledge back then, their weren't any countries that could compete with the US. Today, it's different because of China given extensive transfer of technology. When Warren and Bernie came out and said they wanted to remove all student debt, i said lets invest that money in infrastructure instead since it will increase our competitiveness leading to economic growth and with the excess revenue the government makes, then we can start student debt forgiveness for the most vulnerable first. Another major problem, is our military. Pete is the only one (i will have to find that video for you) that wants to do an audit on the pentagon to know exactly where all this money is going. Everyone else talks about cutting military funding but don't explain how they are gonna do it. And to end, your sarcasm questioning my love for the US, you don't have any right to do that. I am an immigrant from the Caribbean on a scholarship that i literally kill myself out for to win, then became a citizen in January 2019. If you knew what I went through living there, you won't take the vast opportunities that the US provides for granted. I sure didn't. I was dirt poor four years ago when i came here and with a dream and hard work i made it. I dropped out of college after one year because i started making money to live sustainable on the stock market. Then Bitcoin blew up and made majority of my fortune there. So yes this country has given me a lot and will forever be grateful to it regardless of what or who's president, because I've seen hell and the US is Utopia compared to where i'm from. So go off and say what you want, and continue to judge me for some lousy comment i made yesterday. I'm over it.

My opinion on college debt or any of the twenty candidates has nothing to do with your stance on Iran. This conversation is a separate issue. Our debt will be serviceable if college debt is addressed. If, for some reason, the tax cuts to the super wealthy can’t be revearsed and we can’t get back to some kind of fair tax on millionaires...then at least college debt relief would generate the economy for decades, versus padding the pockets of the super wealthy. Any military funding cut is going to include audits and reviews on where to cut money. That’s not unique to Pete. That’s a Democratic agenda that’s been around long before the Mayor was in politics. Congratulations for the scholarship and your good luck with the stock market and Bitcoin profits. The majority of asylum seekers who are trying to save their elementary aged children from gangs and prostitution aren’t so lucky. They have given everything to try and save their children’s lives and they came to this country and had their children kidnapped from them from the person you were supporting two days ago. Yes, the US is Utopia compared to much of Central America, but those kidnapped kids are now in hell right here in the US.

The reason he lost points with me is that admitting that he failed puts all of the blame back on him and ruins the one good piece of government work he had going for him, aside from being in the military. I don't think being a soldier with an unsuccessful stint as mayor of a medium-size city is enough to be trusted to run the United States of America. Do you disagree? Second question: I 100% AGREE. I can't say anything about supporting Bernie or Warren on FB because the gays in my city (again, two hours from South Bend) don't want to hear anything about the candidates that isn't directly related to supporting Pete. It's pathetic, ignorant, and annoying. If that's that case why do you like Sanders. He left the Veterans Administration is chaos.
