"You Need To Calm Down" is about homophobia

I didn't notice it was about homophobia till I payed attention to the lyrics. I have to say the lyrics are so genius.

"Say it in the street, that's a knock-out
But you say it in a Tweet, that's a cop-out"

It talks about homophobic verbal agressions. None of these alt-right 4chaners would dare to insult somebody in person as they do on /pol or other social networks (like Twitter)  cause they know if they do it they're going to receive a good and well given punch.

"And I ain't tryna mess with your self-expression
But I've learned a lesson that stressin' and obsessin' 'bout somebody else is no fun"

Typical homophobic justification, "I'm just expressing myself", and I mean yeah, but there's a different between express your disagreement with somebody and to attack somebody, and to insult somebody that way... that's not freedom of speech  that's a an aggression.

"Sunshine on the street at the parade
But you would rather be in the dark ages
Makin' that sign must've taken all night"

Everyone Happy on the parade, drinking, parting... enjoying the life but the only person having a bad moment it's you, and it's just because of your intolerance. Also talks about the weirdos who think that to be Nazi it's cool. Some of them think that to do the Nazi Hail  makes them look badass but they just look dumb. BTW, Dark ages:  WW2

"You just need to take several seats and then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream about all the people you hate
'Cause shade never made anybody less gay"

It doesn't matter how much you attack somebody for being gay, that person will not stop being gay.

So guys please. Don't let this song flop.

Happy Pride Month everyone.

She’s finally speaking about political and social issues and I’m here for this Taylor. Conservatives can choke. :diane:

Guillaume Hamon

She used to say nothing about LGBT for years ( sorry if she did and I just missed it but I saw nothing ) and now she encouraged her fans to vote for a dem politician cause the republican wasn't protecting LGBT people 6 months before her comeback, gave money to an LGBT association right before this return and made this one with a big rainbow in her video.

I just hope it wasn't part of a marketing plan linked to the release of her album cause, if it's not, that's really becoming an ally! :)

Great idea, but as a gay man, this song is a no from me :huntyga: it just doesn't land. Just too elementary.

Taylor’s music and her whole gig reminds me of one long, endless Target commercial.
