#2 is not a flop at all... Taylor has been big since like 2008 and and #2 DEBUT 11 years after is astounding.

Kinda annoying article but I have to agree that pop girls are boring rn, no one is challenging anything or evolving or taking risks. Thank God Madame X comes out Friday. If only Madame X could sell as well as the boring girls do.

Did DJ Khaled write this? “Me!” a flop when it debuted at #2.

To be fair, both Katy and Taylor’s songs are not my cup of tea and sound generic af so yeah, I feel like they’re just being too safe right now because of their target audience.

The expectations for Taylor are SO unreal for anyone to call a single peaking at #2 a flop...and considering Katy Perry’s last era’s performance, debuting at #15 actually exceeded my expectations...ALSO LoL @ the hypocrisy of comparing them to Beyoncé....when’s the last time she had a top 10 hit?????

Wow... a #2 debut is considered a flop?   This unhealthy obsession with charts is ridiculous. There’s big real problems in the world. But what did I expect coming from this source?

#2 may not be a flop if you're merely looking at chart position alone but in terms of sales, longevity and actual audience reception? Its been a huge misfire for Taylor, it won't stand a chance of going down in history as one of her biggest, most loved hits. I think she's failing because she seemed to regress after a more mature take with Reputation and fell back into easy listening kiddy pop to get a big hit again. To go back to a younger style when she's nearly 30 is not what wins you fans and the existing young market is probably starting to find her a bit old. It's sad, but that's how it works. As for Katy, it's too early to say if she's flopped or not, the song's just made its debut but already it's not looking good, however, this time, it's left me somewhat baffled as to why as it seems really chart friendly. The only reasons being the ageism thing again as well as Katy's music just not being in demand like it used to, plus she's still suffering from being thought of as uncool in the last 2 years.

But the end of the day, it's not like the public's averse to pop as The Jonas Brothers just had their first ever #1 this year with an unquestionably pop song and Ariana's also been slaying the #1 spot with pop songs. It's just a case of Taylor and Katy no longer being the flavour of the month, going through a downfall like all artists do. It's impossible to be successful with every single and album and they're having that moment. Meanwhile, I've noticed that every artist who's had a #1 this year has either never had one or hasn't had one in a while (Gaga's the only one from that latter group). This is a year with a difference and it's good to see different names at the top. Keeps things more interesting and means certain artists don't have an endless monopoly.

Buzzfeed is obsessed with race and it's borderline toxic when you see the shapes it takes lol.

Their theory was that Gaga is too "artistic" to serve longevity and that because Katy basically stood for nothing she had a better chance of lasting. It's so so funny to read just a few years later, look how the tables have turned! Gaga not giving a f*ck what people think and just doing her thing is serving her much better in the long run.

Yeah gaga understood that you can't just follow the rules and rely on it to succeed. I like Perry but she recycles her formula since a while and it works less than before cause most people are getting a bit blasé. Them saying that not being super artistic was the way to stay is absurd since nearly no artist made a very long career without any edginess in his work at some point.

It reminds when  Applause was supposed to be a big flop cause it "only" was a top five hit which sold a few millions.

When you get just dance/ shake it off big you'll only remain successful if you get smash hits according to certain journalists and that's ridiculous lol.

Ummmm isn't Me like top 5 on radio?

This isn't a flop... And Katie's single just came out and is rising nicely on radio as well and getting consistent top 20 streams

Are they smash mega hits no, but Flop is a reach :rip:
