BTS Officially Invited To Join Recording Academy As Voting Members

The Recording Academy, which is best-known for its annual Grammy Awards, has officially invited BTS and Big Hit Entertainment founder Bang Shi Hyuk to join its ranks!

The BTS members have been invited to join the Recording Academy as voting members, meaning that they will be eligible to vote for the Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, Bang Shi Hyuk has been invited to join as a professional member—a type of membership for music executives, managers, publicists, agents, and other team members that work to support music creators.

Not to sound offensive or anything, but why? Does he have a strong musical background or something? I don't even think Gaga is a member.

Just FYI, they are only allowed to vote in the 4 big awards and the category that they are "specialized" in. All the voters are music creators themselves so I'm glad they get to be a part of the process!

Probably to add diversity to the voting cast. BTS are actually very talented and they write and produce their own music so I guess it makes sense

The requirements aren't that hard. A lot of people are eligible. Gaga probably is a member but we don't know it.

You need be a musician, 12 songs in total at least, 1 song in the past year, and recommendations from 2 music professionals you worked with.

Yeah I was thinking that. I dont think shes that interested in what her other fellow modern artists are doing so I don't see her listening to their albums and choosing the best one, she would rather be making her own

So Grammy awards are garbage if any person can decide who deserves to win one.I though they were specialized critics with so many years on the industry.

I mean, yeah. There's 12,000+ members, so they're not really that exclusive.

But again, that applies to most award shows. Oscars also requires 2 sponsors and 3 film credits, or a nomination, to be a member.

Yes, yes and no they don't lip sync. For example, yoongi plays piano. They do write and produce their own stuff too.

Why wouldn't it be true? There's kpop idols that make their own stuff. Jonghyun did. Bts do. Lots of people do.
