Gay bar accused of racism after banning rap music

I really wouldnt call it racist and Im certain it wasnt done with racial intentions, but its definetly unnecessary and awfuly implemented.

They couldve made it more specific and only ban songs with lets say, controversial lyrics, or dont say anything about it and make it a "pop-only" club or something like that.

They shot themselves in the foot with this, in this era of hypersensitivity, of course people will take it as racism

This is the stupidest thing I might have heard in my entire life...

Hip Hop clubs don’t play Born This Way and gay anthems, so why should the gay bars play rap? The bar can play whatever kind of music it wants at its establishment. Anyone who views this as racist clearly doesn’t understand what racism really is.

I mean they'dĀ probably still play disco though,Ā  which is a very 'black' genre... I mean I understand that Hip Hop is just not everyone's taste,Ā  especially since it'sĀ less melodical and 'gay'.Ā

LGBTQ should definitely boycott the venue until they change the policy. It's subtle racism, but it's still racist.Ā

Black Drag Queens drop rap albums all the time. Venues like this have always enforced "subtle racism" tactics.

Certain dress codes include items only Black communities would have in their culture.
"No durags, no timberlands, no tall tees"

And like Timberlands are barely any different from Doc Martens.
But one brand gets singled out because Black communities favor them due to rappers favoring them.Ā

I think you're not understanding what the bar did here. It's not whether or not the DJ's play rap songs, it's that the bar has completely banned rap music all together. If a hip-hop club dj had a fire remix of BTW or a gay anthem, they could play it, even though they might not. It's the total restriction by the bar of the DJ's that crosses a line here.

Yeah I did not direct my comment on anyone here.. I was talking about the subject. Rap music in not black Music, there is many different genres of Music that are black. Not wanting rap music does not mean im a racist. Even if rap is the only kind of music for black people, still does not make me a racist.

Of course, personal music taste isĀ  not inherently racist.Ā

I don’t agree with banning all rap since there’s many LGBT people of every ethnicity that likes/loves rap, myself included, however after the recent string of awful rappers from soundcloud with massively homophobic and transphobic attitudes in both their music and publically I can also see their point.

What about pro-LGBT rappers like CupcaKke for instance, this limits her exposure as I know a lot of gay people request her in their clubs in the US

That’s lame. The gay bar I go to always has a ton of straight guys there because they have a college night every wednesday. It’s funny seeing the straight try to dance to gay bops, last night they played GUY lol

But I also like it when they play popular songs (which usually includes rap and hip hop) and then everyone goes off. SICKO MODE at the gay club >>> whew :giveup:Ā

Yeah which is why I commented because the bar was accused of racism. Although, I think companies are doing things like this on purpose to get people talking about them.
