Can Katy Perry surpass Taylor Swift, critically and commercially?

Who do you think will be remembered more favourably with her new era?

What we know so far:

Taylor said Me! is indicative of the general direction of the entire album, however the single itself isn't too well received, it also struggled to emulate the success of Shake it Off and Look What You Made Me Do. Reputation was also struggling to get Grammy recognition, with the panel favouring much less popular choices like Joanne in favour of Delicate, and Reputation wasn't nominated for Album of the Year either. Nonetheless, Me! still peaked at #2 on Billboard Hot 100, but so did Chained to the Rhythm at #4, how her second and third singles will do remain to be seen.

Taylor is still one of the biggest stars in the world, having sold out stadium shows all over the world and Katy Perry isn't exactly in her teenage dream era.

What we know so far:

Obviously Katy Perry hasn't been doing as well as she did with Prism and Teenage Dream, but Katy seems to have taken on a new image and new direction, which we know from Lady Gaga with Cheek to Cheek, Joanne and A Star Is Born that it can prove to be fruitful in terms of garnering critical acclaim and long-term image improvement. Still some may say 365 and Con Calma (Remix) flopped, but they weren't really promoted, and weren't Katy's solo songs after all.

If we know anything about Katy Perry's team, it's that she promotes the hell out of her new music. She might struggle with the fourth and fifth singles, but the first few singles should be relatively successful. Besides, we know she always serves visuals, even for a song like Bon Appetit. :bon: If this image change proves to be something the GP eats up, we might see her getting recognised by the Grammys very soon again.

Taylor have gotten 10 Grammys so far. Do you think that's possible to be beat by Katy? :poot:

Katy is miles behind Taylor in terms of everything since PRISM, and her new song (from the snippet that leaked) sounds just like everything else she has released so far, nothing new...

I feel like Katy can't outsell Taylor Swift yet, but she might actually receive general acclaim with her work this time. This is, of course, not related to commercial success..

Still, I enjoy both women's music.

I was just talking about their new eras. I don't think it's impossible to believe the scenario where Katy gets acclaimed and Taylor gets moderately positive or even mixed reviews.

However, I do think Taylor can sell out arenas and stadiums in a way Katy Perry can't.

I hope f*cking so. I like Taylor and I loved REP but she needs a flop era. I hope she gets a better attitude after the flop because that excuse "if you criticize me because I write songs about my exes you are sexist" it's something pretty  low.

Taylor's name alone brings attraction to GP and critics. Katy simply needs her 'A Star is Born' to regain a bit of what she had prior to and during 2013. Unfortunately she doesn't have the talent to pull it off...

BUT Anyway we'll be streaming her upcoming rap hit "Never Really Over" :bon:

The critics will always be on taylor's side, no matter what she puts out

They loathe katy for some reason, probably cos she's too goofy and bubblegum pop

Commercially, katy's been doing terribly so don't think that's gonna change anytime soon unless the GP accepts NRO as her comeback

Taylor can have a bad era like "Reputation" and still come back with a flop lead single and nobody cares cuz she is still Taylor Swift

Katy cant mess up after we saw how Witness was received...she needs to have a smash but this new lead doesnt seem like that's it lol

Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify!

If Katy wanted a smash from this, idk what she was smoking, the video looks corny, the song is pretty bad judging by the snippet and she looks like a hippie... of course it's good that she's more about the art than the charts but this ain't it if she wants a huge hit
