Wait I don’t get it. Which party legalized gay marriage? Supports women’s reproductive rights? Prevents discrimination based on your sexual orientation? Allows trans people to go to whichever bathroom that they want? Permits trans people to join the military?

 

Those things sound like basic human rights to me and guess which party supports them??? Republicans failing once again to ensure basic protections for its citizens. I’m sure they would reinstate racial segregation if given the chance.

As a former lurker I always appreciated it when someone would pushback on outright stupid claims by the right on this site so I guess I just want to do the same for any of the other lurkers out there lol. I hate this because I agree in principal, why should we have to have a judge sign off on a marriage license, but the reasoning is so gross.

You know, I watched a movie in my Modern World History class, and the state that I am also learning about at the same time is Alabama. For decades that haven't been good with civil rights. Disappointed, but not surprised. I feel bad for anyone from Alabama that is actually  a good person that has to deal with being labeled based on their close-minded politicians decisions.

Also, I don’t get it. Why is a marriage required for a marriage license in the first place. Most people I know have just gotten paper married first then had a ceremony afterwards like a few months or even a year later. How does this really affect same sex marriages in the first place? It makes it easier, no?

I never got these statements tbh. There's many other developed Nations with higher standards of living, lower crimes...

 

and when you look at wealth on a per capita basis the US only makes the top 20 (add the high income inequality by developed world standards) and the average middle class person is probably not even top 20 WW like the GDP per capita would suggest

 

While by global standards the US is still considerably above average it is not the best country by almost any metric what's so ever. I would never leave Canada for the US

 

The only major thing the US tops the list is Global power in military, it's large economy and in social influence

I mean weed is illegal at a federal level but is still legal is some states. Technically the federal government could go in and enforce the law but they probaby never would.

Ok this makes sense.  But if enough economic hardship is placed on Alabama, they will repeal the law.  Just like they did with HB2 here in NC.
