If you read the OP I think you'd see there is more to Billie Eilish than 'being emo and spooky'. Like if that's all it takes then why did say... Scarlxrd not take off?

Girl I read the OP, I was referring to the Halloween aesthetic being compared to the meat dress

Cool and aesthetic, indie vibe marketing will only get an artist so far. Aside from your first point about her music being a bridge between hip hop and pop (which in itself is a separate debate altogether), I feel like your other points are all just parts of Billie that you  subjectively like as opposed to any concrete reasons why she may have the potential for longevity.

Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed her music and I think her aesthetic choice is very interesting. However, we have seen artists like her fade into and out of the mainstream since the  very inception of a commercial music industry itself. There is nothing groundbreaking about her insofar as talent, marketing and visuals are concerned. I personally don't see much potential. Unless she has the versatility of artists like Gaga and Bey (who rely on more than aesthetics and mediocre vocals), I don't think she will stand the test of time. Maybe the next few years will prove me wrong. I wouldn't mind :)

it's moreso about the creativity and quality being put into her work, as well as how different her image is

she has the potential to be a gamechanger because she is so different and unique, especially by comparison to the other pop girls.

To me, "idontwannabeyou", "my boy",  and "i love you" are my favorites, her voice just sounds so good and the music is just beautiful honestly.

I discovered Billie through Spotify when it recommended me 'bury a friend' in my weekly mix and I instantly fell in love with it  . The aesthetic, her voice, the instrumentals - everything fits so well :tony: . Then I started listening to crown and that one found its way in my playlist, too :diane: .

Tbh, her EP still didn't click for me, and 'wish you were gay' and 'when the party's over' grew on me only after the album was released :awkney: . But I already watched several interviews (and a 'Billie being goofy' compilation :derpga: ) of her and she is such a humble and kind human being I wish I could call a friend :diane:  (yes, I said it and I'm not ashamed of it :whitney: ).

We have to accept that Billie isn't our tea anymore ( 'we' as in growing up in the 2000s - or earlier -, bopping to Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna). She speaks for a younger generation and will define pop (alongside others - looking at you, SOPHIE :firega: ) for the coming decade :lana: .

Ew, David!

I feel like having lived through tumblr (itself inherently regurgitations of aesthetics in general) i've seen all of her aesthetics already, its just now barely being filtered through the mainstream through her all these years later. to me its late af, so its difficult for me to see her as a visionary because I feel like shes just regurgitating things from like 2012/13/14. and either young kids or adults that never paid attention to that niche of culture or whatever you want to call it haven't seen it so they're like oh wow. idk theres just nothing original about her concepts, but also, i just dont like her voice so i cant get on board either way.

I agree, but I wish Lorde was still really big and influential. I’d much rather have her music be the next pop.

Some people here just simply judge her based on her age, i bet you asses Gaga would be doing this style right now and y’all would be stanning.

Seems like some people are getting old and ignorant in here :giggle:

I like some of her songs but her personality is annoying as ****. I didn't even want to listen to her because her annoyed face that she has all the time was unbearable to me.

Meh maybe I'm wrong but I don't see a real musician here. She's bold in her visuals but the music isn't exciting. It's not trendsetting, the minimalism thing she does is already trendy, trap is overdone, sad pop is already dominant. What's special about her? She reminds me of Melanie Martinez  :laughga:

What would you guys say is her best song and why? Not the video, just the music.

She's done it herself. From scratch, both popularity wise and musically.

Her ENTERIE album is made ONLY by her and her brother. She's 17 and he's 21.

She's like anti-pop. She's doing whatever she wants creatively. Melanie was X-Factor (?) first, she's older (ergo she won't last so long). Billie is like... She has so many years in front of her.

Melanie's songs was almost the same (well, different but they didn't differ too much). Where as Billie has both dance music, sad, ballads, electronic, abstract, diffuse, happy, controversial, original and so on.

Think only about what the songs are called... Everything is created differently from what's popular now (or has been popular even). AND she's an open book too. Talks about what's difficult and stuff.

Just some reasons to think about haha. And she relates to a very young audience too.

EDIT: See her live performances. She sounds exactly she same or even better than studio versions. She writes all her lyrics. Even when she sings you can see how important the instrumental is... She know's how to play. She hears music in a real way.

She reminds me a little of Gaga. Even imagines the music videos BEFORE even writing the lyrics down... She's a visual artist more than a music artists she has even said. I think she plays guitar and piano too don't remember 100% sure. She's definetly more an "musician" than many popular artists tbh.

sorry for sometimes badly written English

EDIT 2: I'm still fresh to Billie but regarding your question about best song... Maybe I would say When the Party is Over. It's so real, raw and timeless. Soulful sadness haha.

But my favorite is Bellyache. So different with different build-ups. Makes the listener think it's gonna be acustic guitar all the way and suddenly it becomes a EDM song ish. Also her singing is so good. "where's my mind maybe its in the gutter where I left my over and now I got a bellyache"
