German police officers assault black man in McDonald's

The article is in German but here is the basic rundown:

• Two German police officers off-duty were on a business trip and got sh*tfaced drunk
• While eating in McDonald's both of them kept on harassing a black customer there, aggressively bumping into him and smashing hamburgers at his face screaming "BLACK MAN GO HOME" in English at him
• The black man immediately left the establishment and the two cops started to chase him down the street and started beating him up once they got to him
• In court, they denied anything of that sort happened and their colleagues from the police department all had "very suspicious memory gaps"
• One of the police officers is an avid supporter of the AfD, an extremist right-wing political party
• Ultimately the two officers admitted to harrassing and assaulting the man in order to negotiate a plea deal
• Both got 11 months in prison (on parole) and are allowed to keep their jobs, which has people livid since they basically admitted they were motivated by racism

Sowas kann es auch nur in Deutschland geben :excuseu:

Spoiler

Such things can only happen in Germany :excuseu:

I hope they'll get massive backlash for their actions at work and quit their job on their own :madge:

They won't, their fellow colleagues tried to cover up for them in court.

funny thing is, whenever someone associated with german police is involved or german police did something wrong, nothing happens. hardly ever do they face consequences. this **** makes me so mad

Come through with the birth of a new race, Gaga. Some of humankind doesn't seem to be able to grasp the fact that we are ALL connected, all the same, and that to harm an individual is the same as to harm all of our species, indirectly.

Well, idiots exist everywhere, sadly also in the police

This.

To be honest I feel safe whenever I see the police around me. This changes nothing for me.

Although I can't put myself in the victims shoes, I wouldn't have walked home in this situation. Fleeing encourages the provocation. Staying in public is safer.

Especially here in Bavaria. I've been racially profiled and sequestered 3 times so far in my lifetime (because appearently I look "muslim" even though I'm born & bred here) and two indie musicians I follow recently got racially profiled while touring the country (both are Germans with Turkish heritage). My best friend from Serbia (who doesn't look like a run of the mill German caucasian dude) also got profiled by the police here. Compared to the entire country, Bavarian police culture is a lot more... gross and closer to right-wing extremism than they want to admit.

Just as an anecdote: When I was doing my Abitur there was a literal clique of people with white supremacist leanings, whose goal it was to either make it big in the police or in the military. I've lost touch with everybody, but I would not be surprised if each and every one of them now had a secure job in the military or police.

Exactly! Gay prides, synagogues are safer with police, even if police has problems

11 months is jail feels like a long time tho. I think when ppl want more jail time I think they forget that in jail time will go by slower. Not to mention there's other consequences they already face in life as punishment such as a criminal record, potentially lost relationships (say a new girlfriend that won't wait a year for you to come out), lost homes if u can't pay the mortgage while ur in jail etc

Jail is the main thing but that's never the full extent of concequences to punish individuals

As for them getting their job back, I don't know who was the idiot that made that decision. People who clearly have a tendency for abuse of power plus discrimination shouldn't be wearing a uniform :crossed:

The 11 months was on purpose, starting at 12 months prison time police officers automatically lose their job in Germany. Also prison sentences up to 24 months are on parole/probation by defintion in Germany, meaning they actually won't have to go to jail unless they get caught doing something criminal again and put on trial.
