She needed G.U.Y to heal. I only wish that she had a director to help her mold and execute the ideas.

It's so hard to believe that this video and ARTPOP are half a decade old. Time flies doesn't it.

This is the last video Gaga made where I was truly impressed. John Wayne being somewhat close but G.U.Y. is by far better.

The hidden or not so hidden messages, the choreography, the looks, the creativity, the twist on the song's meaning.... she did that!

Hope for more videos like this for LG6.

It's scary how fast time moves :neyde:

Seriously slow down ARTPOP should be 2 years ago not 5.

Yes!!! I remember exactly when this was released. The party stopped to watch this video. Nnn, I was living and screaming omg about everything. It was the same night I met my ex, so I guess it was a night of good starts and bad endings. :vegas:

Watching that again now i realise that she made this video not to try and get a hit again with the ARTPOP era but just to truly show her dedication to the ARTPOP message.

I mean who cares if she didn't have a director, she basically did this whole film HERSELF, true girl power!

Some of her best looks are in this video, my faves being the gold swimsuit, the red swimsuit & the black, the opening with the burgundy body paint & wings & the black bodysuit with the bird hat & long blonde hair. She served us everything in this video. It’s criminal that the song wasn’t a smash đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™‚ïž

Nice article about how GUY was the foreshadowing of Gaga's turnaround.   Personally, GUY is one of my favorites off ARTPOP, and certainly the most typically "Gaga" sounding song off the album.  It would have been interesting to see how ARTPOP would have fared with GUY as the lead.

Tying all this together is the thread that runs through the whole video, this notion of the categorical insecurity of the masculine and feminine, or bad vs. good art: "I wanna be the Girl Under You, wanna be your G.U.Y.", she de-stabilises. Ultimately, this was the aim of the project that was ARTPOP, the ability to make peace between two warring factions — commercialism and creativity — by finding their common ground. In perhaps the best summary I've heard of the song, Otamere concludes: "It's about usurping, about gaining control by giving up control."

The single "flopped," and the general public concluded Gaga was over. Fans meanwhile, knew that the single was Gaga's manifesto for the future — a proud end to one seven year-long journey, and the beginning of a new, brave direction. Gaga stayed true to "G.U.Y.'s" statement of intent — "I don't need to be on top to know I'm worth it" — and she went on to make her jazz album, then her country album, and finally pursued her dream of acting. Gaga has now come full circle after more than 10 years in the spotlight — post-A Star Is Born, she is once again universally revered, and lauded for her polymathic achievement. Her confidence to pursue passion projects stemmed from that newfound sense of control over both her personhood and the products she sold — her story is incomplete without acknowledging that "G.U.Y." was the fire from which her phoenix flew.

Still love the song

The video, not really. And I don't like Andy Cohen ruining it.

I remember listening to 12sec snippet of GUY and thinking it was THE next hit of hers. Great times ugh! The video amazes me so much. Its obviously very over the top but so was Gaga at the time. I love it (but I agree it could have been a little better though) but the fact that she got everything even though her team was falling apart and gave us that video, that mini era and Roseland in the following months is so brutally Gaga!

Oh wow. SHE PREDICTED HER OWN FUTURE AGAIN like she did in Paparazzi. At that point in 2014, the entire industry had turned her back on her leaving her to die. But then throughout the video, she rises up from the ashes and becomes the REIGNING QUEEN AGAIN.

wow.
