It's a fun pop song with a great message. You don't have to like it, but just know that she's much more capable than a generic song. I wouldn't have made the connection if you hadn't written "A lot of you were quick to diminish the importance of the message in her recent song" in that OP She did not write a song about her experience with scoliosis. She wrote about it being ok to be different, and not in an interesting way at that (super happy if it helps people on their own path to self-acceptance though). I'm interested to know about her experiences with scoliosis but imo it has nothing to do with the (quality of the) song. I have nothing against Ava btw. I loved SBP and I dig some of her other tracks. I'm just very touchy when it comes to people pandering to and/or trying to capitalize on minorities or people who feel like they don't belong. It's entirely possible that wasn't Ava's intention so I'll never blame her personally but I still think people who feel like they don't belong should have different role models than rich white girls whose music label execs are licking their lips seeing her following grow because of this easy-on-the-ear "look at me look at me I represent you!" track. It’s honestly funny to me how some of you seem to think that being white, pretty and blonde instantly makes you feel like you belong. Are pretty girls not allowed to feel like outsiders and to feel like they don’t belong? Just by writing this you (maybe) make someone who is that pretty blond white girl and who at the same time is a Gaga fan and has profile on GGD feel like they don’t belong in this community. Sorry to break it to you or to anyone who thinks the same but if you feel like you don’t belong (for any reason) your appearance can’t change that. ALSO - She wrote that song by herself according to the internet.

She's not pandering to anyone though. If she tweeted "Hey guys, I have scoliosis. Please listen to my new song!" THAT would've been pandering. But she didn't... she subtly said so minutes into a Dutch interview, when she didn't have to. That's not pandering.

You have to remember that being different isn't just about race, sexuality, gender or sex. Many people feel like they stick out because of their interests, conditions, personality, mentality or self-expression. BTW was about race, religion and sexuality, So Am I is not, it's about fitting in and feeling different.

Well, Wiki and Musicnotes aren't technically official sources ofc I'm trying to find those but I'm not succeeding. When I check Spotify's credits though the only information they give is that the song was released by Ava but there is no songwriter/producer info at all Oh well, it'll come. But in the meantime let's suppose she had co-writers as she definitely did for SBP.

Phaye Monster 8,741
girl, me too. Can I go write a hit song about my back problems now? I'm happy she's talking about an issue I can relate to, but I still have mixed feelings about the song, sounds like a Monster High theme meets Primadonna by Marina to me. Catchy though. but if she does form a charity, then good for her. I'd probably benefit from it. She's doing a good thing, so I don't want to see people here hating on her just because the song isn't that original or whatever I'm just happy she's talking about the issue. I'm an ARTPOP bitch, baby

River 117,678
The song might be basic and I still don't understand the hype about her music, but she's a nice person and I will defend her for that from hate and misunderstanding, she might be a blond rich girl, but even blond rich girls can be sick, can have cancer and can be bullied by her classmates, we need to stop label blond and rich as people that don't deserve compassion and privileged, no one gets the full best package, some gets half of it and needs to fight daily with bad things.. So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy
