If you’re a woman and want to be on an equal footing with men, it’s best to live and work in Belgium, Denmark, France, Latvia, Luxembourg or Sweden. The World Bank, which has tracked legal changes for the past decade, found these were the only countries in the world to enshrine gender equality in laws affecting work.

U mean laws that force stuff like equal pay?

I don't agree with some of these laws because while the intention is good they can potentially cause unintended consequences

For example many companies pay each worker differently depending on experience and how well they produce (within the same gender)

Make the pay have to be equal and how does the company manage this? Overpay a woman that isn't as productive as a male worker in the same position? Lower the male workers pay?

I feel like this works better for large unionized companies

To be clear before y'all start coming at me saying I'm not in favor of women's rights that's not it. Its just the workplace is complicated and hard to control with laws, especially without some major downsides

Also once when discussing this topic when my boss was around he said if this was ever made a law in Canada or Ontario he'd be reluctant to hire women because if she didn't produce the same as a male worker he'd still have to pay her the same because of the gender law. I'm sure my boss isnt the only one thinking that. In some fields it could end up making it harder to employ women
