Thirty years ago, Eileen Bowman thought she'd landed the break of a lifetime.

Just 22 years old at the time, Bowman was tapped to play Snow White in an opening live number alongside Rob Lowe at the 1989 Academy Awards, which were hostless that year.

What resulted was a total disaster, prompting that year's awards show to be dubbed by some the "worst Oscars ever."

Something similar tonight seeing that it is hostless?

Disney also sure for copyright infringement lol

'This bombed so badly that the show's producer, Allan Carr (who made the movie GREASE) found himself shunned by Hollywood, and spent the next decade in relative seclusion until his death from liver cancer in 1999.'

this is sad to read :(

So Far I don't find it that bad but let me finish watching this. Rob Lowe sucked at singing and were people really that dissatisfied with getting some culture in their lives?

I basically made this same thread 2 days ago and didn't get one reply. No hard feelings, but I'm just wondering why it got views but no responses but this did.

Anyway, it's fascinating to look at this relic of its time. You just couldn't imagine such a thing being made today. Even for the 80's, it was tacky as hell. I don't know how Creedance Clearwater Revival allowed Proud Mary to have its lyrics changed because this remake desecrated the original. Disney actually sued them for using Snow White's likeness without permission. Unprofessionalism all round.

It was hardly culture, it was just badly produced tack. A producer said years later that it was a big mistake getting Snow White to interact with the audience because she was unknown and all the actors must have been thinking "I didn't work this hard to get here only to have to deal with a dress extra." None of them look the least impressed and just awkwardly look at her. Then you've got people dressed as stars, women dancing about with massive cocktail glasses on their head, I've Got A Lovely Bunch Of Coconuts sang un-ironically,  Snow White and Rob Lowe singing Proud Mary with new lyrics about Snow White, people dressed as tables (complete with lamps on top), a big chorus line that was the ultimate cliche, Snow White looking like she had a a massive structure on her head at the end (still don't know what that was about) and Rob Lowe inexplicably throwing a shoe at Lily Tomlin. It was utter madness. I don't know how anyone can call it not bad. I think you really have to consider if this happened this year. You've got to apply context. And remember that Rob Lowe was going through a highly publicised sex scandal involving a 16-year-old girl at the time, so his presence was highly controversial.
