Knowing how stressful being a president is, if McCain were to have won a second election his bad health would have possibly come earlier, and Palin would have become President. Pretty exciting even if you didn’t support Palin or Obama’s politics. It was hard for the Democrats to play the minority card that year, like they did in 2016. Lol it was still VERY played if you go back and watch the 2007-08 campaign. As it should have been. The reason it didn’t hit much for Palin was because she didn’t really adopt it herself and she was very much an object for male GOP voters rather than someone honestly picked for her policy and political skill. It was still sexism. Obama was the opposite where he had to fight opposition from the get-go as the democrats were behind Hillary and he had to fight his way to the nomination. Iowa was especially brutal, I remember. He wasn’t nominated because he was black; if anything that made his journey harder. He got nominated because he was able to really galvanize people into voting because he’s a great orator and campaigner. Maybe some voters voted for him because he was black (true), but the party was not so much behind that. That seemed more a liability than a white woman with greater experience. Skeletons be damned. Reminds me of when I heard some Republicans supporting Ben Carson solely because he was a black Republican. I would always stand there in shock and dread like... Kamala at the moment is definitely the more popular democratic candidate at the moment (though it's definitely too earlier to tell who will get the nom).
